D&D 5E [IC] Uller's Out of the Abyss

OOC: I'm not too fond of running away, either. Knocking them out would be my preference, but that is pretty dangerous and probably lethal to at least one of us. Assuming we stand a chance at all. However, I don't know what else we can do, particularly after that not-so-good persuasion roll (and I bet the DC for reasoning with a mad lycanthophe is darn high)...

OOC: yeah, I hated to see a 20 go to waste like that. But there really isn't much room to reason with a gnome cursed by lycanthropy right at the moment of their first transformation...Sure...you convinced Topsy you are there to help her, but Topsy is not in charge right now. Maybe if you can get her back in charge...but I think that's going to take beating down the wererat that is controlling her.

OOC: Holy :):):):)! I forgot about the silver daggers!

Once it becomes clear that they will pursue, Ezraen realizes that they will have to fight. Something that Surana says sparks his memory, sparks hope, "Silver, use the silver dagger, 'Van! Maybe we can subdue them!"

Ezraen then begins muttering a prayer...

OOC: So, having moved back 30', does that take us back to the tunnel? I am hoping to bottle neck them, to where only one can attack us at a time. Also, I am casting bless on me, Erevan, and Surana while drawing the silver dagger. Then also directing Bertram to try make sure that we are moving the right way and not getting lost.

OOC:
Haha...and here I thought mentioning the loot from Ilvara's tower would be a dead give away...

Yeah...I think this will be a tough fight but the primary thing that makes them tough for a lvl 2 party is the damage immunity which you overcome (it might not be ideal, but it's something). With Bertram with you (goodberry), I think the chances of a TPK are pretty slim.

The terrain is rocky/tunnelly enough that you could probably bottle neck them to where two of you can attack but only one of them can...but there are enough side passages and loops that one will likely be able to move around you in a round or two...

Bertram stumbles back behind Ezraen. Would you like him to cast goodberry in case someone goes down? He can also use the help action to give adv on attack rolls.

"I'm good at fighting rats! But not ones that I can't hurt!"

OOC: Woo hoo! Stand and fight!

The moment Surana grasps what's happening with the gnomes, her own feral survival instincts take over.

OOC: Time to rage.

Then I'm going to fall back with the party and use my action to dig those two silver goblets out of Erevan's pack.

Armed with...goblets...Surana does her best to stand between the wererats and the party and challenges them with a snarl.

OOC: I know, you had mentioned the daggers specifically too! I'm not gonna drop excuses, but running a PbP Adventurers League and two RL campaigns is doing a number on my memory! :p Originally, I was thinking that this was a losing battle, which is why I was thinking retreat, and let them go and were-rat it out for the night, then hope we can find them afters, but then itcomeswithamap brings up silver daggers... Oh, and by that point, don't forget that when you rage, you either need to attack or take damage or your rage ends, so you may want to wait until next round when we can actually do something.

OOC: Oh, and by that point, don't forget that when you rage, you either need to attack or take damage or your rage ends, so you may want to wait until next round when we can actually do something.

OOC: Does that count in the first round of a fight? Since right now there is no "last turn," I've always interpreted Rage as lasting until the the second turn, and stopping at the end of that one if you haven't attacked/been hurt. If Uller agrees with you I'll change my move.

I think it's fine...as long as you attack or take damage next round. Besides...there is a reasonable chance you'll take damage THIS round..:-p
JustinCase Currently Ezraen and Surana have backed up to a defensible position. Bertram has gone behind them. Leaving Erevan out in front. Might want to move before the rats go...If you want to somehow get in an attack first you can but that means either throwing your silver dagger or opening yourself up to an OA.

Your rage lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are knocked unconscious or if your turn ends and you haven’t attacked a hostile creature since your last turn or taken damage since then.
I have been burned by this before, and since @Uller knew more about darkvision that I did, I thought he might know this one as well. But DM's call. ;) EDIT: Crud, I didn't even THINK about them having a faster than 30' move! D'oh!

OOC: Are you two readying attacks to fire off this round? If even one of you isn't (like if we've backed into an area where only two of us can attack from anyway), and could use your action to get the goblets out for me, that would free me up to get off a crossbow shot this round and potentially poison one of them.

This is my only chance to use the crossbow & hope for a poisoning/unconsciousness hit. After this it's all melee.
