D&D 5E (2014) [IC] Uller's Out of the Abyss

OOC: How fast can we move? Approximately how long would it take to pass through there? I am wondering if we can get a few people in so that we can fight from solid ground while fending off the spiders...
Everyone has gotten the hang of the webs by now. You can slide down them at a speed of 60 since it's a good donward slope. There are two cables.

You can let your momentum carry you past the cave entrance a bit if you want but you have no idea what's inside or what the terrain is like.

If you like we can initiate the fight with two characters making the descent or with ranged attacks/spells.

If you want more than one character per web line at the same time to start the fight then we'll require an acrobatics check to avoid falling on your faces at the bottom. The more characters, the harder it gets.

Also think about your party resources. Jimjar is dead but he blinded a spider. Maybe Topsy and Turvy have some tricks. The fight with the spiders got deleted but iirc Sarith used darkness...so he still has faerie fire (or was it the other way around?). Orsik has 3 spell slots and some useful combat spells. Bertram has some useful spells too. Quaggoths are immune to poison, you've learned.

While you are discussing your plan, Eldeth, who was standing away from the light and keeping watch, moves closer to you and waves to get your attention then makes a crawly motion with her hand and points up. Above you, just out of the range of your light, you see an enormous shadow moving over the webs.

Sarith: "We better get moving..."

Surana nods at Ezraen and slides forward with Derendil, ready to move.

OOC: Now that there are at least 3 of them, can we have Sarith kick off the init roll with Faerie Fire? Seems like enough to be worth it.

Sarith motions towards the two spiders on the wall. Dim fire flies toward them.

The spider on the left of the passage dodges out of the way. The other is hit and purple and green flames spread over its body.

Bertram fires his crossbow at it:

The bolt smacks into the black carapace of the spider. It reels a bit.

Surana gives Derendil a small smile and nod, then pushes off, letting momentum carry her just into the tunnel as she gains her footing. She draws her swords as she comes to a stop.

Derendil claps his big hands together, grabs the other web and shouts "Spiders! Stop your Spidery Ways!" and follows Surana into the cave. ( I am presuming Surana is keeping the light source?). The cave is rocky and dark. The ceiling lowers to just 5' not far inside and the tunnel curves upwards and out of sight. You see no immediate threats. Derendil turns to face the spiders, shouting at them some more.

Orsik calls forth a bolt of light and hurls it spinning towards the same spider.

The spider is able to avoid the bolt easily.
 

The spider from the left (Spider1) moves around to peer into the cave and launches a strand of webs at Derendil...

Sticky strands pin the quaggoth/wannabe elf to the wall of the cave.
