D&D 5E (IC) Vault of the Dracolich (Infiltrators)

We mean you no harm, says SnorLoska in a gentle voice. We just want safe passage through to the next cavern.
We heard what they have done to you and we wish to put a stop to that. I am sure you would be amenable to that?

"Safe? Safe? Nothing here in the dark is safe. My brothers wanted a safe place to stand. To feel the sun, the rain, and the wind! Hrrraw! But they took the sky from us! The cursed rock that once destroyed the forest. It is here, deep down. Growing more rock. Rock should not grow! Only the living grows! Tell that to the rock!"

The old tree becomes more agitated, thrashing it's branches threateningly.

"Hrrrmmmm... Then the Dragon came! A Dragon of bone then of rock! The dragon trapped our roots in the black rock and began to eat us. No one has ever eaten us! But the Dragon eats life! We were life!"

He begins to calm down in his despair visibly drooping, "We were life. Hruuumm. Now my brothers are gone. Dead. And I am left to linger in this place. One day to be eaten. I welcome that day, if only to end my suffering. Hrrooooo."

"More likely meeting that end will only make your suffering eternal. If you like, I have a potion that will end your suffering entirely. Or we could simply pass through and leave you be. All we ask is passage through your grotto that we might persecute your tormenters and drive them from this place..."

Mord held the vial aloft to show it's significance.

OOC: Not sure if a single Alchemists Fire would be enough, but perhaps if he "drank" it he could burn from the inside out.

Squirrels are evil!

He eyes Mord keenly (with just a hint of madness in his eyes and a whole lotta sorrow), "Hruum. I see you mean it kindly, but if it burns I cannot do it. Harooo! I cannot stand to burn. No, better to waste away in darkness than to burn."

"Why can't you leave, exactly?" Zander asks perplexed.

OOC: Did I miss the reason somewhere? Or is it all the ranting of growing rock and living bones, that has him trapped?

"Hrawww. You are befuddled. You should be! Rock should not grow! Only life grows, and rocks are not alive. They can burn, like all can burn, and then they flow like water! Poison, burning water that does not feed life! But still rocks do not grow.

Hruummm... But the rock that came from the sky many, many spring's past. That burned the forest, that destroyed the elf-wizards. That is under this mountain. THAT rock makes rocks grow! That rock speaks! That rock thinks! The dead-dragon used that rock's power to trap our roots, to grow the mountain and block the sky! Then the dead-dragon would come, and it would feed on my brothers. Harroooo. Feed on our life.

Now it sleeps, with it's not-belly fat on our life. Harrooo."

Magic, talking sky rocks that can grow mountains was far afield of Zander's comfort zone. Everyone can see him fidget a bit under the dark tree's gaze. "At least the dragon is asleep, that's some good news right?" he says with a shaky grin.

OOC: Yeah, Zander is INT 9, WIS 10
going to let the wizard like folk handle this
as it is above his pay grade

"Intoxicated on the lives of my brothers, mad with the power of the sky-rock, empowered with the essence of undeath and the nature of dragon-kind, and unlocking the secrets of the elf-wizards through the dream-scape, but yes. Asleep. Hruummmm."

"Then we would pass. We seek to destroy or seal uour tormenter. Your brothers will be avenged. I have one last question. The humans that follow the dead-dragon had statues such as these have you seen any such? It would be the last key we need to reach the dragon's treasure."

Mord creates another illusion of the statues, this time creating the three that they have.
