Armides glances quickly towards the edge of the bridge near the gate and makes a quick estimate of his chances of jumping to the mainland. However, with the appearance of the guard he has more important things to worry about. He holds his hands out as if beseeching the guard to stop his action.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Don't shoot! Blackerly sent us. The prisoners have taken over the cell-block and the Warden is being held hostage. We need all hands up there pronto." (Bluff 26)

The guard calls back toward the door. "The Warden is in trouble. Open the gate."

Meanwhile, not understanding what is happening, Grumblejack continues moving forward.

Armides makes a very brief shooing motion with one hand hoping that Silhouette or Vordahl will make sense of it and stop Grumblejack from advancing and destroying the thin lie he's managed to pull off. As soon as the gate is opened far enough for Armides to squeeze through he'll do so.

Silhouette hurries forward and takes hold, gently, of Grumblejack's arm, shielding herself from view with his bulk.

"Wait for a moment," she murmurs to the giant. "Armides will trick them, and then you will smash them. We're almost out of this place."
 

Vordahl remains behind Irena and Gregor as he advances forward.

From where the guard emerged can be heard, "Opening it now!". The gate starts to raise as if being cranked open from another location. It appears that it will take at least a couple of rounds to raise it completely.

Asseni moves forward.

Silhouette hurries forward and takes hold, gently, of Grumblejack's arm, shielding herself from view with his bulk.

The guard gets a quizzical look on his face as he sees the ogre approach. "You got the ogre on our side? How did you swing that one?"

Armides shrugs and smiles a knowing smile.

"I just promised to give him something he wanted. That's all it really takes, you know. It's how the world works. I give you something you want, you give me something I want, and we're both happy. The nobles do it all the time, trading favors back and forth. You wouldn't believe what I had to promise the ogre. Really, you wouldn't." Catching sight of the guard's expression Armides fakes a friendly laugh. "Ha, ha! Now I got something you want. But whattaya got that I want? We'll have us a good laugh when I tell you what it is." Armides continues his babble until the gate goes up.

Asseni moves forward next to Silhouette.

"Orders are to move the prisoner to town for interrogation," Silhouette said from behind the ogre. "He's agreeing to testify in return for a stay of execution or something." She laughed. "Didn't catch all the legal jargon. That's over my pay grade."

Armides ducks under the raising gate and steps up next to the guard. His quick scowl at the dog is quickly replaced by a smile. He continues an easy banter to keep the guard at ease until the gate is high enough to allow Grumblejack past. He chuckles and leans in conspiratorially.

"You know what the big fella wanted? To smash a few guards. SMASH, GRUMBLEJACK!"
