Round 1

Armides takes a step back and quickly draws, nocks and fires an arrow at the monstrous toad. He nocks and draws so quickly that he doesn't get the arrow placed properly and the shot is wild. The arrow bounces off rocks and skitters between his comrades, luckily missing them all. He snarls a curse but is already reaching for another arrow.
"Bastard's luck! Silhouette, step back!"

Silhouette is taken utterly by surprise, and very badly battered! With no hope of escaping by force of strength, she tries instead to fashion a spell...without inviting another attack that could end her!
Electricity builds around her, snapping and snarling, and then bursting out over the toad and herself alike!
The toad doesn't seem to get the full force of the shock.

Cass stumbles forward toward the loud sounds of squelching moor, closer to Dear Silhouette. His one good eye goes wide with disbelief. "What in the nine he--." Alarmed, Cass steps back a foot or two away from the behemoth frog and unwittingly unhinges his lower jaw. The day's series of frustration forces pent-up air to rush out of Cass's lungs, flames curling and licking through the air toward the toad. Now totally beside himself with fear, Cass snaps shut his jaw and falls prone. Cursed, I am. Cursed. Death, damnation, BRIMSTONE.
The toad is able, once again, to minimize the damage.

The giant toad attempts to swallow Silhouette. The tiefling woman disappears inside the giant toad.

Grumblejack swings at the giant toad and manages to punch the large amphibian right in then face.
The ogre connects with an audible crack. He wipes at his hand as if he got something on it but seems to be OK.

Niles looks behind him to check on Cass when he notices some ripples in the marsh. He figures it is swamp gas as he looks further back and sees more swamp gas bubbles. However, he is wrong and does not know it until after the giant toads jump out of the water.
Niles moves a bit and opens his hand and a jet of flame shoots out for 30 feet and hits the toad.
Once again the toad is able to minimize the damage.

Lord Nelleon was too stunned to react at first, but when Silhouette was gulped down he sprang into action with light mace in hand. "This is just our luck. Hold on girl!" The man yells gruffly as he attempts to brain the beast.
The mace strikes true further injuring the giant toad.

Armides, Silhouette and Cass are up.

Desperate, Silhouette slashes at the insides of the creature with her dagger!

[roll0] to hit for [roll1] damage.

...but it's pretty hard to move in there, and she's very hurt, and...look, it's just really hard okay?! :(

(OOC - And she has like...4 hit points left so unless the critter rolls terribly on damage, that's probably her for this fight. You know, in hindsight, not having any good attack spells was a really stupid design choice. :))

[section]Cass trudges through the mire to stand directly behind Nelleon. Touching Nelleon with cold fingers that spider across the back of Nelleon's neck, Cass prays to Asmodeus for guidance. "Lord Asmodeus, Ashmedai, the Horned King, grant thy servant the power to overcome."[/section]

[sblock=OOC]ditzie didn't seem to want to accept my new placement for Cass, so I am hoping you can make the update for me. Cass moved diagonally in between Grumblejack and the giant toad to stand behind Nelleon.

Cass casts guidance on Nelleon, giving Nelleon a +1 competence bonus on a single attack roll, saving throw, or skill check anytime within the next 1 minute. Nelleon may choose how to apply the bonus.[/sblock]

Armides Diat, human Inquisitor of Asmodeus

[section]
Armides curses loudly and theatrically, declaiming in a voice made for the stage. It's not Silhouette's fault she was gobbled up by a giant toad but she's the only ally he halfway trusts among this band and he would prefer if she weren't digested. Again he nocks arrow to bow, draws and fires. Again his fingers fumble the attack and his arrow speeds off in an unintended direction. Choice words follow the failed attack though he is more concerned over the poor showing than Silhouette's ultimate fate.

The toad turns to leave.

The ogre swings at the beast but misses.

But luckily Nelleon swings and hits the beast felling it and also cutting Silhouette out at the same time.

Grumblejack examines the giant toad carcass. "This must be Lashtongue." you can see that the beast has numerous scars as if it has been attacked multiple times. But it has lived through all encounters save this one.

Combat over.

Lord Nelleon puts his weapon aside and moves forward to help Silhouette back onto her feet. "I am sorry, lady, but I don't think we can stay here long enough to give you a moment. We need to put distance between the prison and us."

He then turns towards Cass and looks meaningfully at him. "You are a priest of Asmodeus? Is that why you were imprisoned?" He opens his mouth to speak further on the topic, but then decides to keep whatever he had to say to himself.

To Grumblejack he asks, "You know this creature? Are there any other named beasts floating around that we should know about?"
