Armides nods his readiness to continue on to this test that the cardinal has devised. He isn't too pleased with the idea but reluctantly accepts that the cardinal would want to weed out the weak ones to form a stronger corp. He has no doubts that he himself will make it successfully to the end but the others... well, he wasn't too sure about any of them.

"I'm ready," he says following after Tiadora without hesitation.

Tiadora leads you to a set of stairs. “Below you will find the Nine Lessons.” She leaves without any further explanation.
A set of stone stairs leads down, through an archway and into an unfurnished chamber beyond. Inscribed upon the archway in the common tongue is: “Deception is a tool. Self-deception is death. Deceive always thy enemy but never thyself.” The room beyond is lit by a small oil lantern hanging from the center of the chamber. There is a single doorway to the east (north is up).

[section]Cass bent his knees while still on the stairs down, trying to see into the chamber beyond the door arch. Cass openly stares at the inscription in the lintel above the arch, trying to place the words. I've heard owt before, but where? Cass frowned, the effort concentrating on first the inscription, then the unfurnished chamber, and finally the eastern door costing him something.[/section]

[sblock=OOC]I am not sure how many of those skill checks you will permit on Cass's turn, so I have prioritized them in the order listed. Cass also has a detect magic spell at his disposal, but he will wait to cast that. Someone else in the party may have access to that spell; I do not want to steal someone else's thunder, particularly since Cass is last in line on the stairs and likely has limited line of sight.[/sblock]
 



"A moment," said Silhouette. She pushed ahead to the bottom of the stairs and gazed into the room. Then she murmured a spell, and her eyes lit up with a pale violet incandescence.

Silhouette detects no magic.

Cass, while not recalling anything useful about the inscription, is able to notice something off about the door. With his limited knowledge of doors he believes that it might be trapped. The floor in front of the door is likewise odd as well. Something about it is just not right. A 10x10 section of the floor in front of the door, wrong.
 


Niles looks at the inscription on the lintle and cocks his head to one side, a look of deep thought in his eyes as he contemplates the meaning of the phrase.

Armides isn't quite sure what to expect from something their host terms 'Nine Lessons'. He half expects the cardinal wants them to fail. He will not; he is determined. He follows cautiously, alert and eyes darting for some indication as to what they should expect. When Lord Nelleon stops for someone to check things out Armides also stops and gives the area another quick examination.

"No magic, then? Okay." If he finds anything amiss in the area he will move closer to check it out.
