Ie7

First Post
I have switched back from Mozilla Firefox to Internet Explorer 7.

When I try to preview characters and spell sheets from within PCGen, when using Firefox they would open as a new tab in the existing browser window. With IE7, it opens a new window.

What I was wondering, Is there a parameter that can be added to the end of the IE7 invocation that forces opening in a new tab in the exising window?

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" "??????"

There might be a setting inside IE. In firefox, it's a new setting, new tabs vs new windows from links. I think it's an IE setting too.

Tools -> Internet Options -> General Tab -> Tabs - Settings -> Open links from other programs in: A new tab in the current window.

That one maybe?

Thanks, but I tried that one. Still opens in a new window... *sigh*

Quick, go back to Firefox! :)

Hmm. I assume you already tried rebooting (I doubt that that's the reason, later M$ products have less need for that...)?
Otherwise, it might be in the way that PCGen opens the PDFs - maybe they are using an option to force it upon in a new window (before IE 7, the IE couldn't do tabbed browsing, and some people might get annoyed if their current page is suddenly changed, so they forced opening new windows.).

Try looking for a plugin that gives more tab options. I don't know if there is one for IE7, but it seems reasonably likely.

I just may go back to Firefox, just for my character sheets. (I'm the DM and generally have many open at once!)

I don't think it is the way that PCGen opens. I looked at the .ini file and it is just called without any parms.

Hmm... Yea, I will go look for a plug-in. If I can't find one, back to FF at least for this application.

Thanks

Have you tried using IE7Pro? It's a third-party add-on for IE7. I'm a rabid user of Firefox myself, but have to use IE7 for work and couldn't be without IE7Pro. I'm not entirely sure it'll fix your problem, but I'll hang it out there for you :)

Crap. I just did a rebuild of one of my computers and found that setting last night. I'm at work, but I'll see if I can remember to look it up tonight for you.

The one right above it: When a pop-up is encountered....

Any time IE tries to spawn a link in a new erm... document, it considers it a pop-up.
