If there was one thing about 3rdE that you could change, what would it be?

Thanks for the thread.
You're quite welcome, Felon.
Good meaty review, and the thread on the whole contains a lot of good material.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Think I'll have to check out SAS now, although I'd really prefer a d20 supers system (and I hear that SAS d20 is somewhat lacking).
My review definitely had postive and negative points to make about SAS, so definitely take a look for yourself. I wouldn't mind getting to take a look at Mutants and Masterminds, m'self.

I dont know about changing anything, but I would have added a few more options. Like:

A Spell Point system. Of course this would impact both on how Sorcerors and Psionics would be handled.

An option so that PC's dont fight at 100% till they pass out - some kind of penalty system as a character gets morer and more hurt.

One thing I would change is how languages are handled. The D20 Star Wars system is a bit of a start in this regard.

I'd also redue the system of weights for items. Some of those are totally out of touch with reality.

Although it doesn't boher our group, I can see your point, and think that if this doesn't change, they've dropped the ball somewhere.

Well, first off, let's understand that just about any system that replaces the 8-hour rest cycle isn't going to offer the same level of simplicity. Having said that...

I mentioned an "action point" system previously. I was working on such a system when I was trying to create ad20 game based on the superhero genre (back before there were any worth a damn). Obviously, superheroes don't stop to break camp in the middle of an adventure, and the typical team of heroes doesn't have party healer, so instead characters have a reserve of points that can spent to give them a "second wind" of sorts, allowing hit points and certain special abilities to be replenished.

Thats a great Idea actually. I amy have to look into it for my modified D20 game

Thanks

I haven't seen that, but I suppose the point-based system used for psionics could be ported over directly to spellcasting (with some modifications for spells that are scaled by character level).

An ace and a felon.... hmmm.

Regarding the idea that 8 hours is too long for spell recovery in a pinch:

I think there are a few options within the rules (Magic item creation etc), but I also think that there could be room for a system to allow for quicker spell recovery. There would definitely have to be a proper counter-balance though, and I don't think GP is sufficient for game balance purposes.(in case anyone was thinking "Potions of Spell recovery" or something.) I'm not sure how to go about it, but I'll give it some thought.

I'd like to see the system increase the Hit-Point range of Disabled and Dying. For instance, Disabled from 0 down to negative Con, and Dying from negative (Con + 1) down to double negative Con.
