if you could run or play in ANY campaign RIGHT now...

Play or run...

Ars Magica!!!

A buddy of mine and I are planning on co-GMing a game, and are rounding up a group right now! 5th Edition looks pretty sweet, and I can't wait to get started. Some of my best gaming memories come from Ars...

But *right now* my mind is seeing a setting that mixes Pirates of Dark Water and Sinbad (the 2003 cartoon from Dreamworks). Not specifically arabian in theme, I'd like the PCs to sail from island to island, where they accidently dock on an abandoned island only to find out its a gigantic dragon turtle, etc. Class Defense Bonus and Action Points galore.

Yeah, baby, I'd be all over that! Sign me up!

The thought has crossed my mind, but I really hate the the time factor involved with PbP gaming.

However, If I ever get off my butt consider a spot reserved for you kirinke...

Is that 5th edition an update to the original Ars system, or is it the new WW system they revised for the "New Age" World of Darkness?

I've almost reached the climax of looong high-magic D&D campaign now; the PCs are well into epic levels and have ascended into demigodhood. Once this is rapped up, I'm gonna want a break from DMing! (Making CR 40-70 monsters, NPCs, outsider lords and deities is an enormous amount of work!) So what I'd like to do after this is PLAY; preferably in something completely different.

Ideally I'd like to try a low-level, low-magic campaign; something based on the vikings' culture, history and mythology would've been perfect. One of my players have planned a mid-level/medium magic campaign were we all have to play lizardfolk, so I guess that's what I'll actually be playing after my own campaign ends.

I want to run something truly epic, where the PCs actions result in a total transfomation of the world and its people for the better- something so radical that it signals the turn of the age. It's not been done well, or often, and I think it's got something to do with both the culture of the hobby and the rules of the game.

This is exactly what I'm running right now! The PCs are central pieces in a war involving just about every outsider lord and deity. On the material plane a frostgiant sorcerer has developed an epic spell that has shrunk the sun to half its size, so the world is steeped in darkness and eternal winter; while the outer planes are running with the blood og slain mortals, fiends, celestials and deities. New deities are taking the place of old ones, and the PCs are the first among the new ones. (Basically, I'm ditching the "official" deities and introducing new gods for my homebrew world! ;) )
