AD&D 1st edition Method III is the best rolling method.

LOL you averaged over 14 for each score. Granted you needed that to have any hope of a bonus to things, but still...

Given the distribution it creates, I'd just roll d6+d4+8. It has a slightly lower average, but over all would be quite a bit less dice rolling (if you think that isn't a good thing, too, I guess...).

Makes it a little too controlled for my tastes. If you’re going to roll, you might as well roll 36 times and make it a real event.
