D&D 5E If you had natural armor, would you wear manufactured armor?

Mechanically, generally no - if it is a base AC of 13 or better. Though I’d likely still use a shield if my class gave me proficiency.

Depends on what I have proficiency in and what level of AC it gives me. If I'm playing a lizardman rogue I'm not going to bother. A lizardman strength based fighter though? Give me that plate armor!

Really it just depends on what gives the highest AC and if I care about stealth.

If you were playing a 5e species that had natural armor as one of it's traits, would you wear manufactured armor?
Depends on how good the natural armor is, and what manufactured armors I'm proficient in and can afford.

After all, the human body has plenty of armor built in. Your skull is a helmet; your ribcage is a breastplate; your subcutaneous fat is an all-over gambeson. Doesn't stop us from manufacturing additional armor and layering it on top.

Id love to see armour actually designed for a lizardman which accounts for its natural armour and isnt just a replica of human armour with a few more spikes

A lizardman could probably get away with just wearing mail with no padding underneath. Mechanically that could be reflected by a reduced STR requirement, or no stealth penalty on some armors that usually have it.
