Not really. The rule that you can't aside, what I was suggesting is not targeting the caster, but rather targeting the effect as dispel magic is intended to do. If as @Lyxen says you can interrupt an instantaneous spell to perform a non-instantaneous action, then the rule that says instantaneous spells can't be dispelled because the effect is too brief is wrong. You can do it if you ready the action and interrupt the effect. Therefore, his interpretation is most likely wrong.That's very interesting, so I guess that settles the "ready Dispel Magic" question.
