If you wanted to create the classic fighter/mage, what Feats would you take?

Note: Wolfen Priest, you are thinking of gaining levels past 20th as a caster. You CANNOT gain any spells after 20th Level in a class (For Instance Wizard Levels for a 20th level wizard) without the appropriate feats. Your caster level goes up after 20th, but no more spells without some feats.

But you can take a new class and get more spells.

Here is the path that I'm going down:
28 point char
str 16 dex 14 con 14 int 14 wis 8 char 8
You are a fighter first and foremost. The wizard lvls give you the combat edge.

4lvls fighter
The key fighter feats which will garner the most bang.
weapon focus, power attack, cleave, power attack, exotic weap prof bastard sword, weapon specialization

with mithral bp and large shield 14 dex ac = 19 af 20%

transmuter wizard spells shield and pro from evil ac = 28
at fifth lvl thats not bad.

great cleave 6th lvl

7th lvl: 3 stat buffs for expected combat str dex con which can bring these stats to 19 or 20

8th lvl spell sword with mm chaneled, power lunge full power attach with true strike guiding the blade = d10 + 2d4 +2 + 6 + 8
you do suffer a aoo but the high ac is good protection.

9th lvl (spell sword) expert tactician

10th lvl (wizard) blink gives expert tactician the dex loss
this with the cleaves can garner quite a few attacks especially with haste.
11 th spellsword
12th spell sword - improved crit.

This is as far as I have worked out this path.

9th lvl spell sword

Just few point to the discussion:
1.) To get 4 attacks at level 20 you need to be Fighter 12/Wizard 8 at minium so that's very likely the goal

2.) Mind over body feat from FRCS, can be taken only as 1st level but no need for high CON after that.

So the mine first 10 levels:

Wiz 1
- mind over body
- dodge

Wiz1/Ftr1
- weapon finesse: short sword

Wiz2/Ftr1
- combat casting

Wiz3/Ftr1
- no feat

Wiz3/Ftr2
- Weapon Focus: Short Sword

Wiz4/Ftr2
- Improved Intiative

Wiz4/Ftr3
-no feat

Wiz4/Ftr4
- Weapon Specialization: Short Sword

Wiz5/Ftr4
- Extended Spell
- Craft Wand

Wiz5/Ftr5
- no feat

Huh?

Level 8 Wizard has a +4 attack bonus...
Level 12 Fighter has a +12 attack bonus...

OH WAIT... I forgot you only need a 16 to get 4 attacks. Dargh!

Creamsteak, I guess you are right. I still haven't even read the ELH, but, I guess if it allows you to be a *viable* epic fighter12/mage8, that's not too bad. Maybe I will have my character go that route as well, as he is currently a fighter2/evoker3.

Hence my interest in this thread. :p

Don't misinterpret Mind Over Body. Your INT mod replaces your CON mod for HP at level 1 ONLY. It's a slighty better version of Toughness for wizards, but by no means replaces CON.

The Paladin 1, Fighter 2, Sorcerer 4, Spellsword 8 character in my game seems to be pretty good. Mithral plate and shield give him good AC, and leaves him with a low 5% failure chance that goes away next level. He uses the Create Magic Tatoo spell in FR to add +3 to his attacks all day, and packs useful spells like Haste, Fly, Displacement, and Flameshield. His saves are excellent.

I don't think the 4th attack is worth worrying about. Because it will rarely hit, it doesn't do much for your damage, and even if it could, Power Attacking would also be effective.
