Diaglo will be miffed there's no OD&D option, not that it made any difference to me.

He's not the only one...

I would play OD&D, as written, just for the sheer silliness and nostalgia factor, but I dropped out of playing D&D because of the switch to AD&D; I only came back with 3e. So, no, none of the above versions would suit my taste.

I voted for none of them, because I wouldn't go back. 1e came close. Diaglo will be miffed there's no OD&D option, not that it made any difference to me.

I believe Johnnie mentioned that the only reason he left OD&D off his poll was that he was polling people on OOP versions that he himself was considering playing. So obviously OD&D doesn't interest Johnnie; therefore it isn't on the poll.

I don't think he was trying to miff Diaglo or anyone else. :)

Given the choice between pre-3E or no roleplaying at all... I'd take basic D&D. For some time. If I can't find a 3E DM. Then I'd snap and start DMing 3E without the books, if need be.

Tunnels and Trolls, definitely.

-The Gneech <-- would happily go HERO, too; but no pre-3x. D&D please, my hat for them know no limit

Well, you can go play Tunnels & Trolls solo while my group and I play AD&D 2e. ;)

Well I certainly hope that he doesn't make his decision based on the poll, especially given the massive superiority of the Rules Cylcopedia over the other options!

1E easily. I originally started in 2E, but switched over after playing 1E for a bit.

And I'd be a ranger, or a paladin.

Not to threadjack or anything, but I'd be curious to know what made you switch to 1e from 2e. What did you prefer about 1e?

Half orcs
magic resistance (how was 1E MR confusing? It had much more flavor)
demons and devils
assassins and monks and rangers and bards (damn I loved 1e bards)

It just seemed to me like a bad attempt at recompiling rules without really changing them (except to remove some awesome stuff) So to me 2E was 1E-.
