D&D (2024) If Your Builds Not Online By Level 6 Dont Bother?

Shield twice a day, that really makes you feel like you're playing a magic knight. Compared to the Battlemaster and other Fighter subclasses, it's like the EK doesn't have a subclass until lvl 7.
The blade cantrips made it feel a little more magical, but otherwise I agree that the EK felt a bit lacking until level 7.

problem with EK that it does not add anything to it's attack vs Battlemaster or even paladin with smite.

sure you can deal 3d8 damage at range twice per day, but you can deal 1d8+4 damage at range the whole day, with spell you deal extra 5 damage on attack twice per day(if you hit), battlemaster deals 18 extra damage per Short rest with some added effect.

maybe EKs combat magic at 3rd level could be: when you take Attack action on your turn, you can cast one Action cantrip as a Bonus action. that can have a limit of usages or not, depending on testing.
later that can improve to 1st, 2nd or even 3rd level spells.

so in the end, Shield is a "best buy" for EK with Absorb elements as backup.

Exactly. It's a Fighter with a light smattering of offensive/utility magic.

It doesn't really achieve the thing folks who loved the 4e Swordmage or the PF1e Magus are looking for.

How are you casting shield as an EK? Requires somatic.
We're generally using jump instead. In effect it's +20 movement.

You can also build around shillagh plus true strike. Use a staff as a focus, warcaster. Warcasters essentially required to cast shield.

Or in case of 2Handed weapon, you just release a grip of your off hand for a moment.

jump is useful, I agree, but is that is for EK?
+20ft movement for a fight or two?

the whole S/M components are just annoying to track.
if you are not bound/grappled/carrying a barrel/body while climbing, you can cast spells with S/M components.

or to be in spirit of the class, your bonded weapon is for S/M components.

That pictures casting a spell on your turn probably not as a reaction.

RAW in 5.5 you're screwed casting shield without warcaster. Wizards generally have a spare hand.

My EK builds good at it;)

Shillagh plus using a shield another combo that doesn't work well.

I won’t play a build that does not make sense so to speak. As such, I want it online early.

Played a dwarven warlock. His patron drove him half mad talkin to him through his axe. By level 3, he was barbarian 1, warlock 2.

Now up in the teens, the rp dynamic is still available.

I personally want to enjoy every session and never want to feel like I am biding my time or playing “dead levels.” For me the pleasure is to play.

I also don’t want to twist myself
In knots justifying weird multi class multiclassing. Cool if u do, not for me. I like it simpler and dip-like.

Waiting to realize a concept for 6 levels? Count me out!
