[IK] Secrets You'd Like To Know

If there were something you could find out definitively from the Iron Kingdom campaign setting to sate your natural curiosity, what would it be?

My top choice would be: What are the Guardian Giants protecting?

Iron Kingdom Campaign Guide is listed as being published Q1 2003 (another 2 months?). I dont see it as a surprise though if they decided to hold it back until the revised books are published.

well, brian snoddy and matt wilson said in their interview with mortality.net that they believe publishers who are planning to delay their publication schedule due to the impending revised rules are "shooting themselves in the foot" by doing so. thus, i doubt that they'll hold off on this account. that said, i'm not sure it will be released by april as they claimed in the same interview [keeping in mind that in the advertisement page of the longest night adventure they also claimed to be publishing a guide to the city of corvis in summer of 2001].

their publication schedule [and concommitant delays] can be frustrating, but this is largely a funtion of how compelling their setting is and how wonderful each product they release turns out.

personally, i'm hoping for some of the things hinted at in the character primer: a discussion of some of the changes to magic [summoning, etc.], the religion of the dragon-god toruk; plus information of the nations themselves [city populations, for instance]. i'd also love to see a map of corvis with some basic glossing of the districts and some key locations but i fear that i'll probably have to wait until they publish a separate city guide to the city [and when will that be??? :D ]

...

Hey darkbard,
I'm not sure I understand what they meant by "shooting themselves in the foot" - do you?

Did the interview have any other juicy tidbits?

I downloaded the show, but the interview part was extremely hard for me to hear, so I stopped trying.

The mini's on their site look great, and I suppose you don't need to play their upcoming wargame to use these mini's in a IK D&D campaign... Did they say when these will be available?

Here's something I noticed last night from the IKCP and MN1.

1) The Farrow. They for some reason look a helluva lot cooler then minotaurs. And check out their stat bonuses: +2 STR, +2 DEX, +6 CON! Imagine starting out with a 24 CON, yikes. HP beast. Alas, it is a +4 ECL creature. It has 2 HD to start with and a +4 to search and scent. However, this seems somewhat odd to compare with...

2) Satyix. They would seem to make great antagonists or encounters for a party. Stat bonuses: +2 STR, +4 DEX, +2 CON, +4 CHA. Also, they have a headbutt ability and the hypnosis ability is equal to character class. Quite powerful, yet they are only ECL+2?

the quality of the interview did suffer from [a] poor sound quality and adlon and smaugdragon's poor interviewing skills. instead of doggedly pursuing lines of inquiry about, say, content of future products or rationale for many of the changes from the standard baseline of d&d they've made for the iron kingdoms, the interviewers seemed happy to pursue tangents about products from competitor publishers [!], etc.

that said, the IK guys did reveal that a monsternomicon II, focusing on the creatures of the bloodstone marches, is in the works--perhaps a year and a half away.

the interviewers [once again] didn't press on what brian and matt meant by "shooting themselves in the foot", but i interpreted this statement to mean that d20 publishers need to concern themselves with the quality of their own products and meeting release schedule dates and that trying to accomodate potential changes to the system by WotC by delaying material is only going to shrink a fan base as it loses interest in a particular company's products. just my personal take, mind you.

i don't remember a specific release date for the minis mentioned but the rules for war machine are slated for a february release.

oh yeah, one more thing in keeping with the original question of this thread: i'd definitely love to know more about how magic items work in the IK with regard to appropriate items [and also wealth] per level, item creation, effect on game balance when dealing with creatures with damage reduction in a low-magic-item setting, etc.
