"I'll never get to play XYZ": your biggest regrets?

There have been times when I wished I could stop DMing my current campaign and just do a bunch of one-shots or mini campaigns. But my guys won't go for that -- the thing that keeps them coming back is seeing their characters improve. Playing someone new every time doesn't have the same appeal.

You need a gaming club.

We've got one here in Asheville, and it's the perfect solution to your problem. We meet every Tuesday from 7 to 10 pm. The first Tuesday of every month new games start. Occasionally a game will last for two or three months, but that's not common, nor particularly encouraged.

Though to answer your original question, despite the presence of the gaming club, I very much doubt I'll ever get to play the old FASA Doctor Who RPG. I may not get to play d20 Modern unless I first run it (and run it well) in order to get people hooked. I can think of a few other games that are probably nots, but those are the two biggies I'd really like to play.

There have been times when I wished I could stop DMing my current campaign and just do a bunch of one-shots or mini campaigns. But my guys won't go for that -- the thing that keeps them coming back is seeing their characters improve. Playing someone new every time doesn't have the same appeal.

Around these parts, we have this thing called circle gaming. Each member of the group writes up an adventure in some game system like they would run for a convention, planned for around 4-6 hours of play. Then, we call down the list to see who can make it for the set day, and whoever can come, comes. We usually have about 20 people in the group, so there's hardly ever a week where nobody can come.

It gives us a chance to play games that we want to try out, ideas that we wanted to give some flesh to, and games that by their nature make poor campaigns...like Paranoia or HoL.

Hi-

You could place thieves world in your campaign setting, I replaced Urmlaspyr in my FR campaign with Santuary, I also renamed the Dragon Spine Mountains to the Misty Mountains. I gotta have the Misty Mountains in my FR campaign, lots of Orcs and Gobbo's as well as demons running amok beneath those Ancient mountains in the ruined hall's of the Dwarven Kings.
Oh ya, I would like to play:
D20 Star wars
T20 Travaler
BESM d20
Warhammer FRP
d20 CoC

Thieves World is my biggest regret. I have a great gaming group filled with friends and people who love gaming. But they have zero interest in Thieves World. :(

It would have to be Marvel Universe:RPG. I got the three books and then they announced that there would be no more.

I still can't belive they didn't at least release the Spiderman book with with the Spiderman 2 movie.

On the plus side, I've got the complete set :D

Patience is a virtue seldom practiced.

it took me 7 years ... but i'm finally refereeing an OD&D(1974) campaign again. so never say never. dreams really do come true. :D

My free time, like many people who are getting older, working, in a relationship, and in a fairly regular group, is at an all time low. However, I have started to break through barriers. Instead of playing just d20 all the time, I bust out games like Hero, A/State or even some board games.

I know what the system can do. While interested in seeing how far a character can advance or what the GM is going to throw at me, I'm curious to see what else is out there. We don't play those other games enough, but that's the time factor again.

I don't regret not playing adventures though. I can always borrow from them ranging from NPC's and magic items to maps and monster stat blocks.

I do feel it's a bit 'unfortunate' that I'll never get to play in all these great classic modules that I own.

But, no regrets. I've made my decision to be a full-time DM, and I'm okay with that.

I'll probably never get to play:

A mythic China/OA game
An ongoing CoC game
A WFRP game (although this is more likely now GR are rewritting it)
An Al-Qadim game

But I'm pretty lucky. I'm playing in one greyhawk game and one d20 Modern game, and DMing my D&D homebrew. I'm probably going to drop DMing the D&D and run a d20 Future game.

So I'm not too concerned about what I don't get to play. :D

I'd love to play Nobilis, but it's gonna take a lot of work to find just the right group of players...

I've been saying this for the past year. Nobilis is at the top of my list for games that I want to play but probably never will be able to, just because it's so hard to find a group.

The other two are Planescape and D20 Modern. So.

Hey there,

Now that I've reflected on this a bit, I can think of a couple I regret I'll never get to play:

Over the Edge
ANY Classic Pulp Game - Justice Incorporated, Forbidden Kingdoms, Adventure!, you name it, it won't happen, dammit.
