Illithid Psionics Conversion (new thread)

OK. i really want to get these things done and gone. it is now my mission to finish them, and i won’t rest until i do. let’s review, shall we?

some of you have suggested how to convert these psionic powers, and re-examining it, this is what i’ve come up with so far. if you see something here that does not make sense, speak up now or never! i can’t keep running over the same old ground forever, so this will be the last time. (though, for good measure, i will probably post a “final” version on monte cook’s site for an evaluation before i add it to the CC.

ELDER BRAIN:
clairaudience, clairvoyance – these became one power
all-round vision – ubiquitous vision
know location - same
create object - fabricate
molecular rearrangement – matter rearrangement
telekinesis - same
ballistic attack – suggested just use Telekinesis?
control body - same
control light - same
create sound - same
inertial barrier - same
levitation – levitate
complete healing – True healing?? Biofeedback?
energy containment – energy barrier?
metamorphosis – same
body control – adapt body
body equilibrium - same
suspend animation – suspend life
banishment - same
probability travel - same
teleport - same
teleport other – perhaps Teleport Circle or Baleful Teleport?
astral projection - same
time shift – could be Time Hop, Temporal Acceleration, Temporal Velocity, and/or Time Regression?
time/space anchor – dimensional anchor?
domination – same (also, True Domination and/or Thrall?)
ejection – no one seems to have any idea about this one at all...
mass domination - same
mind blast – not necessarily, as attack/defense mode
mindwipe - same
probe – Mind Probe??
awe (unique to Illithiad) – Demoralize??
ESP – detect thoughts
false sensory input - same
id insinuation – not necessarily, as attack/defense mode
mind thrust – not necessarily, as attack/defense mode
post-hypnotic suggestion – suggestion?
taste link – sense link (taste only)
psychic crush – not necessarily, as attack/defense mode
empower – becomes various item creation feats (Craft Crystal Capacitor?)
psychic surgery – psychic chirurgery
ultra-blast - ultrablast
cannibalize – becomes Body Fuel feat
magnify - becomes Maximize Power or Enlarge Power feat?
prolong - becomes Extend Power feat
psionic inflation – catapsi?
psychic drain – psychic vampire (close range)?

Plus, the following powers are present in the other monsters, besides anything listed above:

Ulitharid:
intrusive taste link – intrusive sense link (taste only)

Cessirid and Saltor:
dimension door – same

Embrac:
empathy - same
invisibility (Kigrid has also) - same
mind bar (Saltor has also) – mind blank?
"...may also produce illusions that are like a spectral force... in all respects except that the illusion has no potential to cause damage.” - ?

Saltor:
hypnosis - ?
dimension walk - ?

Also, I’m going to ask around about psi-severed head’s suggestions on “useless” powers. I can think of situations where these things might be useful, but I want a second opinion. Also, same thing with giving it psion-levels (as with a solar having sorcerer levels) in terms of powers, rather than just listing them and going to all this trouble. but, I for one do prefer the list... (though I can see how it could work well his way)

And, sorry folks, I’ve completely abandoned the idea of turning these into MM-style spell-like abilities. Just too much work, and I’m not willing to do it anymore.

hmm....

Elder Brain - Ballistic attack could be replaced with Mass Concussion, True Concussion or Detonate. Teleport other on the other hand is easy, just make it as teleport, but allow it to target unwilling subjects, and allow a will save to resist.

Ulitharid - Just use Intrusive Sense Link, no sense in limiting it to only taste is there.

Embrac - I would go with Mind Blank and Ecto Puppet

Saltor - Hypnosis could be replaced by Hypnotism from the players handbook... Dimesion Walk is probably most easily replaced by Phase Door, Etherealness, Planeshift or Probability Travel, depending upon upon just how powerful you want it to be.

If you have the PsiHB, I suggest you set aside a couple of hours to sit down and read it through this weekend... Might make psionics a little bit easier. But for innate psionic powers, it's pretty much the same as spell-like abilities.
