I'm not ashamed! (Simple Life)

I was most amused with the dairy barn job. My main thought in watching this though was that Fox or thier dads need to shell out some serious compensation to the town and its residents for putting up with those two.

Nicole at least seems to understand reality a little better than Paris. Maybe its because her dad isn't quite as rich. As for Nicole's drug use I have know many drug users and they're not all bad. Maybe she was using to escape the vacuous life she normaly lives. I'm guessing not but have either of these two ever been to college?

I thought the Joe Schmoe Show was fun periodicly, even if I only cought a couple episodes flipping through channels, but I normally avoid reality TV like the plague, because, like others have said, it's not reality.

Of course, that was sorta the whole point with the Joe Schmoe show :)

Joe Schmoe is surprisingly good. I justified my watching it since it was basically a practical joke on someone actually willing to appear on one of those innane reality shows. :)

Besides that, unlike other shows, he was guarenteed to get the "grand prize" since he was the only contestant.

I also watched a couple episodes of Scare Tactics, which is I guess *kinda* reality TV... But I stoped watching that for two conflicting reasons... Only one of them is valid, but I don't know which one. But either one is a reason not to watch it.

I either object to it moral grounds, or for reasons of innanity. On the moral side, I think it's a horrible, cruel show, and potentialy dangerous (I've seen people do some very stupid-risky stuff to 'escape' from the show... and it's only a matter of time until one of them fights back against one of the various "madmen" or "undead zombies."

On the other hand, so many of them are just stupid... undead zombies, mutant men, you name it... and with horrible acting and concepts... That I just can't believe anyone actually falls for them, unless they were the dumbest people on the face of the earth. And the camera angles and shots in some of them are so perfect that I can't see how they were got from "hidden" cameras, not to mention angles that should just be impossible from the set they are in.

Most of the episodes are pretty stupid, but the Bigfoot attacking the RV rocked. :D

Actually, in terms of people getting hurt, there was another practical joke show a few years ago that had a victim get badly hurt. The joke was that they were at a hotel and were performing illegal surgeries there. They had fake blood and organs lying around. They then called a local pizza place with the plan being to scare the delivery guy.

Well, it worked. The guy was so panicked that he jumped through the window! He got cut up and broke some bones.

Seriously, that's just the stupidest thing. I mean, your randomly picking someone to do this to. You have no idea if they have a bad heart or could react violently. All you need to do is pull a mean joke on a guy with a pocket knife of some kind who is prone to freaking out.

Also, some idiots got arrested duplicating some Scare Tactics stunts. They "kidnapped" some of their friends at gunpoint and threatened to murder and, I think, rape them. Needless to say, their friends were not amused.

I loved Joe Schmoe for a number of reasons.

First, it was a blatant riff on reality television, in almost every single way. I appreciated that a lot.

Second, it was a total experiment - no one knew how this was going to end up. It was a crap shoot, and it worked.

But third, and most of all, it showed the average guy as something that isn't bad to strive for - caring, nice, decent, laidback, loyal, and hot for Molly.

I also watched a couple episodes of Scare Tactics, which is I guess *kinda* reality TV... But I stoped watching that for two conflicting reasons... Only one of them is valid, but I don't know which one. But either one is a reason not to watch it.

I agree completely, though I think I use an "and" instead of an "or".

As for the girls... I can completely believe in someone being that oblivious. Especially them being oblivious to the fact that their being made fun of on national television, and revealed to the insipied spoiled brats they really are. I almost have to feel sorry for them.

(Warning, rant... please don't take personally... or do, I can't really stop you :))

What gets me though is that the combination of high-society, stupidity, and "voyeurism" (though as has been said, it's not real) gets lapped up by the public. It's almost viscious, in that I'm sure a big part of the appeal is knowing that you're better than these rich... women... in some aspect. Like they're being torn down. It makes me more than a little sad. Of all the reasons that these two should be put in this situation for real, and there are many, money is probably the worst.

Paris is a bad influence on the girl who skipped out on her hearing for possession of heroin to be on the show???

I had forgotten about that, though I only knew because of this show anyway. But after watching tonight's episode I retract my statement and seriously believe that little kid taking care of the dog is a better person then both those girls. I missed them getting fired, I was digging through the fridge. Oh well. :)

So the guy at the farm tells them "You were here 9 hours, and you worked 6 of those, so here's 42 dollars".

Paris: "This is so unfair!"

Nicole: "That's like five dollars an hour! Isn't there a minimum wage or something?"

The show was funny for, like about 5 minutes, but it's already, like, so over.

Yeah, Paris asked if they sold walls. Man, their parents must be SO proud. ;)

That just seems to say that they don't watch much TV which in itself is not neccesarily a bad thing. If you don't shop there and don't watch TV not knowing may be excussed. I am fairly knowlegeable about the world but there are still large things I don't know about as proved every time I head to the south to visit my sister. Even though Wal-Mart is national it is not everywhere. I spent 5 years in NY and wal-mart shopping was an unknown concept except for national TV comercials.

No what they're parents should be ashamed of is thier complete lack of work ethic and a callous disregard for others. When they were filling the milk bottles they had no clue that the owners livelyhood depended on that milk and that was why he didn't want it wasted. They also watered down the milk and joked that they would hate to be the people who got that milk, not understanding that the people who will buy it probably are on a budget and can't just go buy another.

The thing that gets me is how well everyone takes it -- that I've seen anyhow. I don't exactly make a habit of watching the show. Usually, I just catch glimpses while flipping channels or the start or end when watching something else on Sci-Fi. You never see anyone get really mad and deck the "friend" that set them up for this. If someone had set me up for something like this, I'd be extremelyangry with them. I figure the whole thing is staged and the "victims" are just actors like everyone else.

If nothing else, the risk of missing something when setting up a stunt is too great. What if the victim has a pocket knife (as someone suggested) and stabs your "madman/monster/whatever"? What if the victim has a gun he keeps concealed somewhere handy but which his "friend" doesn't know about and blasts your monster into next week? What if the victim manages to get hold of a tire iron, stout piece of wood, rock or some other bludgeoning weapon, or just plain knows how to use his fists and turns on your "madman/monster/whatever"?The same goes for victims injuring themselves while getting away. Some of those pranks involve victims driving cars. What if someone gets scared and doesn't drive off, but rather runs your "monster" over. What if someone gets suspicious about all the strange people crawling around the victim's house while he isn't home and calls the cops? What if the victim has a bad heart that even he didn't know about and the scare kills him? What if you manage to clear the victim and his environment, but another friend who isn't in on it shows up and has a weapon, calls the police or keels over from a heart attack? As a last resort, what if the victim turns around and sues everyone involved? There's just too many ways for this sort of thing to go terribly wrong.

You know what I'd love to see? I'd like to see a show where someone called "Scare Tactics" in to play a prank on someone and then turns the tables on them. Set up your own hidden cameras and then wait for them to set up their bigfoot or alien prank. Then, have the "victim" shout something like "Yes! I'm gonna bag proof they really exist!", pull out an assault rifle (loaded with blanks, of course) and proceed to watch the Scare Tactics jerks freak out!
