D&D 4E I'm not gonna do 4E

For myself, brand shiny new toys are most likely enough to tip me over into purchasing. Getting my gaming group to convert might take a little bit longer but like the change over to 3rd, it will eventually happen.

PS: The only thing that will stop me converting over is if the base premise of sword and sorcery was lost. But hey this is D&D, they couldn't go making the core D&D world Eberron could they?

One thing I find interesting is that at least two people here have mentioned that they haven't played in years.

For some reason, I don't think "readers" are who WoTC will be aiming for with 4th ed. I think they'll be aiming to get new players. Readers will probably just be a bonus.

Nothing against readers. I'm like that with many systems due to lack of time. Only have time to toe dip in games like GURPS and Hero while everyone loves D&D.

I never bought 3.5e, 3.0e, or even 2e. It's extremely unlikely that I'll go for 4e.

I have a lot of stuff that I haven't used yet, so don't really feel any need to switch at this present time. It isn't particularly an economic thing - I'll almost certainly pick up the core books and I'll continue to pick up 3.5 books that interest me - it's just I have a lot of stuff and I'd actually like to see it get some use before I discard it!

I have no interest in 4e. If it is a superior system to 3e, I'll buy. If not, I have plenty of material to game well into my golden years

A new edition does not stop you from using old books. I'm still using 1e books and 2e books and books from other systems in my D&D 3e game. Heck, with the new white wolf stuff I use that to enhance my old edition games.

I am not to worried about it. I still play in a Ad&D and 3.0 game as well as a 3.5. If I like 4.0 and people want to play it then I will purchase the books.

The only bad thing I see about 4.0 is that if I like it I am going to have to buy more book shelves to hold the books.

I don't understand why people get so upset I look at it this way you don't have to switch if you don't want to. Your books are not going to self destruct. And I still find things online to support the 2E game I play.

The only downside I have found playing an older edition is when new players come into the group who need books. It is why I still have several 2E players handbooks I can loan out and why I still have several 3.0 players books.

My shadowrun group still plays 3E we do not at this time want to switch to 4E we photocopied some of the things a new player needed until he could find the book on ebay.

Yeah, my local group never switched over to 3.5.

I prefer 3.5, but I think that locally, I'm not going to have any great problems finding players if I ignore a hypothetical 4th edition.

As a side note, I really don't think of SW Saga as a herald of 4th like some people seem to. I think DI is more of a herald of 4th, but I wouldn't expect it immediately even then. I imagine that, if wizards is smart, they'll get some experience with DI and see what works and what doesn't and then integrate new online techniques with the game.
