Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

On a side note.

YO KRUSTY!!!

Gonna do anything regarding the ethereal plane? I'm very interested in ethereal monsters and templates. Maybe even a few psionic creature oriented templates.

Mayhaps something in the way of a psionic entity template??? Or mayhaps some sort of Advanced Beings, like out of Athas (see www.Athas.org).

Quality over expediency. Learn some patience, as you so often try to point out to me. Besides, I hardly doubt one little paragraph would delay anything by more than an hour at most.

Also...rule clarifications are a good thing. They help those who don't frequent this site. I could easily wait another year for an update, as long as I get one.

Let's try not to burn Krusty out with impatience. We've all been a little guilty of that. The man is an artist, ART cannot be hurried or rushed.

I understand you like to post negative responses to nearly anything I say...but for the sake of the adults, let's keep it down to a minimum.

What can I say? You make it so easy.

ANYTHING at this point would be a nice counterpoint to all the nothing we've been getting since UK practically gave up on finishing the text. Given the fact that UK's remarked on how it would take hours to replace the name of one ability, I can't imagine how long it would take him to make room for and insert a wholly new piece of text to fulfill some unremarkable article of what should be common sense.

I'm not sure what your declaration of waiting another year for an update speaks of, but it's bordering on ignorance. If I've paid for a product, I wouldn't very much like to wait two years before I get it. We've already edged right up to (if not passed; I'm not sure anymore) the first year mark now, and I'm getting pretty POd about it. It's irresponsible of him to allow his work to fall this far behind and take so long (and I know you know this, UK, so I'm not trying pick open this particular wound, I'm making a point), but it's equally irresponsible of you as a consumer and a fan(atic) to facilitate even more delays, especially when you're not the only person waiting for the results.

So, while I appreciate the artistry of it all, let's not go applauding and :Ding when UK skips updates for weeks at a time, then months, and when we can start having "When Are We Going to Get It" Anniversaries. I know you like to present yourself as a sympathetic patron of the "arts", but it's really little more than sycophancy and it does nothing for you, UK, or the rest of us to attempt to say "take as long as you want" while trying to placate the rest of us with empty language. UK needs to get on the ball; he's got a publisher on his back and he's about a year behind on Ascension. There's no room right now for foam-finger-waving praise, especially when he has yet to deliver a final product.

That being said, UK has all the time he needs, he's just got to manage it better or he'll see fewer and fewer of us as the name on the cover of the project changes. It's his responsibility as a designer to design, not talk about design or promise design or implicate design. Perhaps, UK, you should start jotting notes on a computer instead of on a pad of paper in shorthand, or whatever you do; it might save some time in the transference from idea to reality.

I think ur being to unrealistic about this. He did state in the very beginning that he would try to do regular updates, but...

...he also said he couldn't promise anything and that it could take a very long time for the finished product to reach completion.

I think you're forgetting that Krusty is really just one person doing the kind of work that normally takes corporations well over a year to complete, and that's with a whole team of dozens if not hundreds of employees at their beck and call.

Cut the guy some slack. I have no doubt that he is suffering from brain burn and is in need of a break. Id personally go crazy if I had to do half the work he's had to do. Don't get me wrong...I'd love an update. But, I'm not pushy about it.

He never made a precise deadline promise. You knew that was a risk when you preordered. Perhaps you should try waiting until the product is finished if you can't handle the inevitable delays and pesky sidetrackings of the mind of a meandering genius.

Every game designer has sidetracked from time to time. In many cases, FAR worse than Krusty. If anything he has been forthcoming with his own shortcomings and honest to a fault. It's funny how you think that anyone who isn't one your side is just some mindless fan (atic).

I am not a fan (atic). I'm just a fan. And yes, I do like Art. Their is absolutely nothing wrong with that. So...like I previously requested on numerous occasions...please keep your personal problems to yourself. We are trying to discuss EPIC BESTIARY things on this thread.

Your constant derailings serve no more than to distract from the creative process you so desperately want to encourage. Perhaps...instead of pushing...you should try coaxing a little.

You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Now...can we please get back to the point of this thread.

Anyhoo...Epic Bestiary.

I have an idea for a monster, a living pocket dimension that pretends to be an ordinary pocket.

I'm sorry it appears that way. I'll update this Sunday with all the finished text, spellchecked and including all the art to date.

But that will be the last update before the actual release.

I have ten more interior illustrations in various stages of completion - most just need to be 'markered' (a process which takes about an hour or two per illustration). After that there are less than ten interior illustration to go and thats it done.

Thats an extreme case amongst divine abilities. Nothing to do with updates anywhere else in the text.

Although sometimes, because I like to fill pages as much as possible, adding significant (as in more than a paragraph) amounts of text at this juncture would mean adding 2 new pages...which would then themselves need to be filled and all the page numbers fixed (including parts of the text that refer to other page numbers).

Usually I will start by giving myself extra space, but at this point I have already filled it.

Dante.

I appreciate the unconditional support mate, but I don't want people to think I don't care or am intentionally taking my time - obviously thats not the case (as my finacial situation should indicate). You saying "take all the time you need" is only going to rankle people further than the delays have already rankled them.

Its a sorry state of affairs and I won't make the same mistake (with pre-ordering) twice.

Dante, "fan" is short for "fanatic". RTFM. It's also incredibly funny how you've attempted to libel me by using strawman points. Keep it up, it's better than your usual drivel but sadly indicative of your convenient misremembering of your own pointless derailings.

UK, looking forward to it.

I still think pre-orders are a great idea. They just need a lot more planning. But I can understand impatience...to a degree. I think I'll go advertise your book to some of the local book dealers. I'm friends with most of them. Might help sales a teensy tiny bit.

So it's a statted-up version of a Bag of Devouring, except its mouth is pocket-sized? It could be an interesting beast, granted, but it doesn't sound particularly epic in scale so far. I know the original Bag of Devouring had an Ecology article devoted to it in a Dragon issue some years ago- anyone know whether it made it into the Monster Ecologies book?

On a slightly different subject, that Cube you posted has some intriguing ideas, by the way! It definitely needs more to distinguish it from the other Orichalcum constructs, but it's a start. The idea of a "living factory" is what I find most interesting personally, whether it's Orichalcum or not, and it could make for some really cool epic plots if handled properly. I'm thinking, why not generalize it the way the other constructs have been by U_K, i.e. the Leviathans all have Nesting, the Colossi all generate Anti-Magic Fields, and so on? Given the sheer power of a Leviathan of any type, and the fact that a "Cube" or "factory" or whatever is significantly larger still, every last one is guaranteed to be a powerful Epic threat even without its army of creations.

Two things though- first, you need to figure out just what good that "internal reconfiguring" does mechanically. What does it do for the Cube, and what can't it do? Second, why a Cube particularly (unless you were just inspired by the Transformers movie, which was the first thing I thought of)? :)

For my own part, I've been slowly but surely statting up a Young Firmament Dragon for the Sample in the entry, and on the side have been figuring out what the Dark Matter Dragon (the Adamic idea I had) should be like. I'm thinking of basing that one on my own new Concealment Portfolio, the one posted in the other thread.

Anybody else have monsters to share or discuss?

Dante, you're really something. A) your wikipedia entry doesn't exist, so you tried looking something up to prove me wrong, couldn't find it, and then sent me a link?! I love it! Besides, Webster's dictionary states:
FAN
Main Entry: (3)fan
Function: noun
Etymology: probably short for fanatic
1 : an enthusiastic devotee (as of a sport or a performing art) usually as a spectator
2 : an ardent admirer or enthusiast (as of a celebrity or a pursuit) <science-fiction fans>

Now go home and leave the heavy hitting to the adults.

Paradox, with a Dark Matter dragon, will you be shrinking the mass of the monster as a whole?
I assume superluminal will also be an intrinsic element?
