Important - Please Do Not Send Me Money Via Paypal

I feel for you Morrus. I recently tried to buy a laptop.

The guy did a lot of ebay sales (somewhere around 3500 without a hitch) and then got hit by a car a day or two after getting my check.

He was in the hospital for ten days on heavy meds. His ebay/paypal accounts were frozen and he hasn't been able to get any help from them to get them back up.

And he can't get the $1287.50 or the laptop back to me. Which, in a roundabout way, has then caused my regualar bank accounts to be temporarily frozen.

Consider your pain shared.

Another option might be Evocash. I only used them for a few months before I closed my account (for personal reasons, not because of anything wrong with their service) leaving the last $1.00 in there since it costs more than that in transaction fees to get it out.

They struck me as having an unnecessary middleman in that they used X-Changers for a lot of what they did, but I know little about such things, so maybe its necessary ::shrugs:: www.evocash.com has more info.

I might be blind, but is there a note on the news page for this? It would catch some eyes that miss this.

This is sadly reminicent of a story-link I posted to the Publishers forum months ago from The Register. They are a great source of tech/business news, and had a story back then about PayPal problems.

Story link here.

PayPal

Good luck with PayPal - they have no right to freeze your money. I hope that my Community Supporter payment from early December wasn't part of the held money.

When you deal with them (and also go directly to the parent company E-Bay) to clear this up be sure to mention the number of hits this internet site gets, as well as the number of vendors who use it, and emphasize that ALMOST ALL of them either currently or have previously used both PayPal and E-Bay. If they know they are dealing with an audience much larger than one it will probably get quicker results.

I've done this in correspondence directly to company CEO's with complaints about their businesses. I let them also know that I teach Marketing at two local colleges and have several classes of students who I am tempted to tell of the poor marketing experience - and I have often received personal replies of apology in return (as well as having them correct the problem).

I'd rather not go into it. But I will suggest that you go to Google, type in "paypal" and check out some of the sites that come up. It has been a very expensive New Year for me... :(

I did the search and was very disturbed. I hope things go better for you Morrus. Good Luck! :)

machine.

Yay for non-FDIC sponsored banks.

You know, I knew of that site before you started using PayPal, and now I wish I had sent you the link when you did.

Boo PayPal, Boo.

I've thought on and off about getting a Paypal account for the past two years. Knowing this it's safe to say it's never happening.

i had no idea that there have been so many problems with online money exchanges, but as someone who has thusfar managed to get through life without a credit card i guess i'm out of the loop

Even if Paypal sucks, I think some of the non-paypal solutions people are proposing might be even more dubious. We hear about problems with Paypal because Paypal has such a high profile.

So back to square one and traditional methods? Send cheques to a US address where someone trustworthy on that side of the Pacific will consolidate and send them over to Morrus?
