Improved Evasion

I'd just like to garner some thoughts.

Our DM at the moment would like to change the improved evasion entry, because, logically, you would take damage from, say a fireball, in an enclosed space (smaller than the area effect) or if you are in an area of, say, web.

The rules are very specific - you have to be helpless for improved evasion not to work. Yet he feels, logically, an entagled character should not benefit from improved evasion.

Thoughts?

I'd argue that logically an entangled person isn't helpless and so can still benefit from improved evasion. Someone in a web actually has a tremendous amount of freedom... they get a penalty to their dex (which reduces their reflex save) and a penalty to attacks and they find it difficult to move out of their 5ft square.

I think the penalty to the reflex save from the dex penalty is fine to cover the minor restrictions webs put on someone. He is still able to duck, weave, cover vital areas, control his breathing and do all the other stuff which involves taking less damage from a fireball.
