Improved Weapon Finesse?

I don't care much for the splat books, so maybe this feat already exists, if so please ignore this.

Pre-requisite: Weapon Finesse

Effect: Allows you to add Dex bonus to damage in Hand to Hand instead of your STR bonus. Does not apply to creatures that are immune to critical hits and such.

Rationale: Essentially allows for the fact that someone with exceptional reflexes is not only good at scoring hits, but fast enough and accurate enough to hit more sensitive areas of the target

Sound ok?

Well its an extension of an existing feat so not much to do in the way of originality. Personally I thought Weapon Finesse should have included the damage with the to hit bonus, but oh well....

The DM in a game I'm running has a homebrew rogueish PrC with that as a 10th level ability called 'Agile Strike'.

I could see this kind of ability as being overpowered in some campaigns as it invests so many things in 1 stat. You'd have to decide if you're happy with this in your own campaign.

Also, if you're finessing a spiked chain, do you get 1.5x your dex bonus to damage?

No 1.5 multiplier for this, 2 hands doesn't make you more accurate. And it does put alot on one stat, but its limited to one weapon and would require 2 feats which I feel balances things out nicely.

This was suggested before in the houserules forum. In my opinion, it's way overpowered.

At the very least, it should replace the Str bonus to damage, not supplement it, and Str penalties should remain. And it's still overpowered with that.

I agree, if the Dex is used to add to damage then Str should not be figured into the calculation. This would simulate a surgical, not a powerful attack. This would also resolve any issues with using a weapon 2 handed as you would not get a x1.5 bonus for dex using 2 hands.
