Yes BUT there was more to it than that.

This was my Darksun game and the two were mighty warriors (mortal) whom had a fight during the beginning of the Cleansing war. One of many things Rajaat arranged to be sure no one stopped him since they were too busy with in fighting.

No. In 1E AD&D Gruumsh was like a cyclops...he only had one eye. He didn't ever have a second eye to pluck out. From Deities & Demigods: "Gruumsh himself has but one large eye in the center of his forehead."
Roger E. Moore's Orcish Point of View article disagrees with you.

Corellon putting out the eye I remember from the 2e FR god book demihuman deities.

I looked it up and it turns out I misremembered, it was the 2e monster mythology that said that. 2e Demihuman deities does not specify beyond the cover picture.

I remember the Cyclops pictures from DDG and the Dragon article saying how Corellon shot near his one eye when they clashed as a warning shot to let Gruumsh know he was vulnerable.

So my memory right now is that 1e Corellon did not.

Corellon putting out the eye I remember from the 2e FR god book demihuman deities.
the other confusing thing came from the 1980 DDG where orc clerics put out one eye.
and also from the 1977 Monster Manual where some orc tribes were named things like the Bleeding Eye and such.

edit: and how Corellon was listed as never missing with his bow. and how orcs were listed as hating elves and never taking them prisoner. and so on...

While that may be the case, the fact remains Gruumsh as presented in Deities & Demigods had a single eye in the center of his forehead. R. E. Moore can retcon all he likes, it doesn't change change the facts.

Fight the power!

Back in those days, Dragon was a pretty important magazine. The "facts" presented there and the "facts" presented in the different versions of Deities & Demigods came down to a matter of preference.

Actually, I must apologize to Mr. Moore. He made no retcon at all. His description of Grummsh in the article you mention never says, nor even implies, that he ever had two eyes. In his tale, Corellon takes a shot at Gruumsh's eye and misses. In other words, he did not shoot out one eye, he shot at the only eye. Gruumsh was still at that time cyclopean in nature.

Agreed, the poll needs a "Who did what to whom?" item.
+1.

I've never owned a copy of 1e Deities & Demigods, I vaguely recall seeing the names "Corellon Larethian" and "Gruumsh" somewhere back in the day (in 1e UA?), but they've never had any connection to any game I've been in or run.
