As some of you may have noticed, I have not been around lately. I have been doing what I can to aid my brother and his wife in a very difficult time. They recently gave birth to Ezekiel Thomas Judd, their firstborn child. Zeke was born with a rare genetic disorder called trisomy 13. This condition occurs when a child receives an extra partial chromosome on the 13th chromosome pair. There are few treatment options for a child born with this condition and the genetic abnormalities that occur are usually not permissive for life.
Ezekiel was born on February 25th at approximately 3:00 pm and was immediately put into ICU. On Saturday the 27th he was released to his parents and given home hospice care. His family was very supportive of the new mother and father. We all chipped in where we could to provide them with as much time as they could have to spend with baby Ezekiel.
He was an adorable little baby boy. He weighed about 5 lbs. 1 oz. at birth and was born with an extra finger and toe on each hand and foot. After being released to his parents he was never away from their side. He loved being held in his mother's arms and hearing her sing to him and hearing his father's voice. His final day was spent with in arms of his mother and father who got him to smile while helping him move his arms and legs. He was always a fighter and hung on with all his strength.
Ezekiel will be remembered by his family and their friends and loved ones as a darling child who was a blessing to his parents and family for his tragically short time on this earth.
Rest In Peace, Ezekiel.
I may be out of town again for the memorial service fairly soon. If you are a religious person, please send Ezekiel's parents your prayers. If you are not a religious person, then please just keep them in your thoughts.
