In the modern day of online games...

Do any of you still RP online in the form of MUDs? I was thinking of actually starting work on a new mud pretty soon just as a side-hobby and was wondering if many people still actually even played.

Well... I play in an online AIM game, a Play By Email FUDGE Game, and a game that Planewalker.com is hosting. I don't know quite what MUD means, but yeah, there are still some players that play online.

I don't, but I have several friends that do. I remember when my friend Brett came into the office one day and said that he'd purchased MajorMUD for himslef as a Christmas present. We all assumed that he meant he'd purchased a membership or something, but as it turns out, he actually bought MajorMUD (that is, he owned the IP). I have no idea if he still owns the rights, but it is still registered as being the property of a Kansas City area company, so it's quite possible. I never much cared for MUDs, but this guy (obviously) had a real love for them.

that's great, I wouldn't think of purchasing a MUD, if I was to start one it would be using one of the many many free codebases.

and MUD stands for Multi-User-Dungeon/domain. They are text based roleplaying games accessed by telnet. Although there are mud clients out there which are glorified telnet clients with triggers/colors/aliases/mapping/etc, all it takes to play a mud is a network compatiple pc.
