Innate Spell Feat Query

I was reading the Feat, Innate Spell last night and I'm confused. The spell chosen for the Feat takes a slot eight levels higher permanently. Ok, you burn one 9th level spell to get a spell like ability. Now comes the confusing part.Does this mean that you can only have 1st level spells be your chosen spell? If that is true, this Feat is lame. What first level spell is worth using up a 9th level spell slot for? Even if you can cast it once a round. Can someone clarify this for me?

I believe that is the correct interpretation. I think this feat was primarily intended for use with epic level play, where you could turn those 10th+ level spell slots into some more hefty innate spells. Granted, most first level spells aren't that appealing, but by the time you get to 3rd level you start to find some much more attractive ones (Fly, Haste, etc).

Let's see, burn a permanent 9th level slot, get the ability to cast a single first level spell as many times per day as you can. Magic Missile is the obvious choice for most people, but there are a lot of great first level spells, utility spells, that would be worth while as well.

My Cleric/Warpriest is looking to use Innate spell on Cure Light Wounds and Endurance. CLW would not be useful in combat, save to stabalize someone, but just give me a few minutes after a battle, and my party will never have to worry about healing again.

Technically, you could burn an 8th level slot on a cantrip, but that is really stretching it. Better to use Permanancy.

What about combining Innate Spell with the Improved Metamagic Epic Feat?

An easy way to get uber-metamagiced spells unlimited times per day.

I'd allow it. Your epic level at that point and power comes with the job.
