Insanity vs. Protection from Alignment

I have protection from Chaos cast on myself. An evil wizard casts Insanity on me. Do I go insane?

My thinking: Yes, but not until the Prot from Chaos wears off. The spell takes effect, but I am immune to its effects as long as I have something blocking the (Compulsion).

Let's say I went insane. Can I return to lucidity later simply by having Protection from XXXX cast on me?

Protection from chaos won't help you at all. Insanity is no mind controlling effect, and no chaotic spell, either.
