INT instead of WIS for will saves?

Is there a feat that lets you substitute your INT modifier for your WIS modifier for Will saves?

My wizard is embarking down the path of alienist soon, and that -2 WIS will bring me to only 10, and with all the far realm contact I plan on doing- high will saves would be nice.

I don't know of one off the top of my head, and I'm not around my books. You could always create a feat to do that, but it sort of cheapens feats such as Iron Will.

House rules category, but I'd make Iron Will the pre-req for such a feat.

And I don't know of any published feats that do this.

I wouldn't. There are two feats in Complete Adventurer that allow a PC to substitute one stat for another for the purpose of resolving saving throw modifiers--Force of Personality (Cha instead of Wis for Will saves) and Insightful Reflexes (Int instead of Dex for Reflex saves). FoP has a Cha 13 prereq, and IR no prereq at all.

That said, were the OP one of my players, I'd tell him to suck it up. You want to play with Cthulu? There's a downside. ;)

I forget what it's called, but in the OA update in Dragon there is a feat that allows you to use Int for Will saves and Spot & Listen checks. It's an ancester feat, though.

Wow! There's a tough prerequisite for you: Force of Personality has Cha 13 in order to use Cha instead Wis for Will saves?

Guess my Cha 6 Dwarf is so out of luck....

There are some Will saves that seem particularly suitable for using the Int modifier instead of the Wis modifier. For example, some illusion magic is such that being smart enough to think your way around the situation ought to give you a bonus.

There are other Will saves that don't seem that they'd be influenced by being exceptionally smart--where, for instance, the D&D "Wisdom" actually is supposed to represent wisdom.

Instead of opting for a feat, I think that, as a DM, I'd seriously consider circumstance-based Will saves that simply used the Int bonus instead of the Wis bonus. As a player, I'd seriously consider trying to persuade my DM of same.

If you want a basic mechanic for this kind of thing, you could probably make one based off of the the knowledge checks idea found on giantitp.com.

That's a good article in general, by the way. I use it in my campaign, though my players haven't really utilized it very much. I need to start encouraging that more...

Wow, if Cha is 6 and you want to use it instead of Wis, your character must have really sucky Wisdom! :heh:
