D&D 5E Into the Dragon's Maw (OOC)

Guys, I underestimated how much time a combat post takes. I need a dedicated block of time to get all the numbers in a row and I have just been unable to find that block. I haven't given up and I'm hoping to try and get the next post up tonight after I get the kids to bed.

This is why I needed to run a short module to see where the time crunch exists. Combat just takes time that a narrative post doesn't due to checking sheets and numbers. I'm going to look into more options to make it easier on my end (and thus more frenquent ).

I totally absolutely 100% get what you are saying here. It can take me sometimes 2-3 hours to put together one comprehensive combat post with maps. Just do your best, when you can. And don't be afraid to touch base with me once combat ends; maybe there are things I do that could help you, and VICE VERSA?!! I'm always open to hearing how other folks run their PbP games.

What she said! It is quite time consuming but I think the trick is finding a format that works for you.

In mine, I basically repost what the player has written and added a description of the result. I have maps made in paint in an easy to edit format.

I have found that having a print out of the character sheets can be handy (or I have seen other people ask players to link their character sheet in every post, which works very well too.)

But I would recommend having a look at what other people are doing and find what works for you. Don't let it get you down, the internet isn't going anywhere. :)

No worries here mate! great stuff

on a side note: AoO's, you want us to take those in order of Initiative, prior to/at the same time of narrating our next actions? or?

It's narrative order. Narrate in the order it happens. If you are on the same initiative, your action happens during the dragonling attack and your AoO happens as the dragonling moves away. Then, narrate the following turn.

If you are after in initiative, AoO first then turn.

Does that make sense? I'm on a tablet and typing is slow. Also, ENworld gets super slow in the evening for me so fingers crossed that this post happens.

Mental Note: in 5E, Mirror image does not work on creatures with Blindsight...I've learnt something new :)

I think a couple of my players have snuck this one past me, because we are so used to 2E I never noticed it until going over Ignis' spell repertoire :)

makes perfect sense, and I believe PF words in a way that it doesn't work on blind creatures, 2E has no such distinction in the spell description.

Quick note on where we're at. I think I didn't communicate well. The wyrmlings did not have a surprise round. Their stealth vs the group's perception was a failure. Plus, everyone was alert and there are a few effects preventing surprise. Anyway, I took everyone prior to their action as readying an action (thus using their reaction). Everyone after them (or concurrent) in the initiative order still had their reaction due to not acting yet.

So for the folks who are ahead of the monsters in initiative, you would post your readied action and go ahead and post your next round (prior to the wyrmling acting). So the folks tied or after will post the AoO and their first turn. Does that make sense?
