Introducing: my metal band Hoarfrost!

Nyaricus

First Post
Well folks, a few of you might have seen a post here and there about how I've been involved in one musical project or another - my latest one is a band which was formed back in January. It was Scott, a guitarist, who got everyone together, and I only nominally knew the guy before I was invited to be a part of this project as the vocalist.

In any case, after 4 months and all-too-few practices (problems in scheduling plagued us for the first few months) we've finally gotten some material done-up, which is very satisfying to say the least :D

Now, we were missing Scott for this recording (but we still had our other guitarist Brett for it) - and the recording itself was done on a laptop (thus, bad quality), I'm still very excited to have something down "on paper" so-to-speak :D I'm not going to put on any airs when I say these songs a re very rough and need some polish, ha ha.

So, without further ramblings: the Hoarfrost MySpace! Please check it out, and tell me what you think :) EDIT: we have now uploaded new versions of our songs, so the first 25 or so posts deal with the originals, just so you know :)

cheers,
--N

P.S. I'll just mention it that lyrically, some of it deals with religion and such, so please use your own discretion when checking those out - my band and my presence here on ENW are two different things, so I'd rather keep this thread on-topic and within board rules, please and thanks :)

Yeah, not bad. If you had good recorder and proper mixing it might even be good. But as I come from country where there's at least two metal bands in every street, I have heard similar too much :heh:. If I try and forget that for a few seconds I rather enjoyed it. Keep training and get a proper recording eguipment. Cheers Ny ;)

Very cool and congratulations!

Now if only I could get with a band to be a lead vocalist. I know I have what it takes!

Other than the recording quality, I would say that sounds pretty good. Perhaps not the most original, but then again, not being familiar with a genre (like I am - I think I have 2 Slayer albums, that's it) tends to mean most songs sound alike.

You should try doing covers of Abba songs. I've always wanted to hear metal versions of those, especially Dancing Queen.

As a DJ for independent artists/labels I'd say its not bad. I agree with the others about the recording tho. Where do you record at? Do you record at one of your homes or a studio? If at one of your homes then one suggestion I would have is to try recording in a couple different rooms of the house to see which room seems to be more recording friendly.

Its pretty good. I'd try and refine your growl a bit. To me the the low one sounds to monotone and your high growl sounds way too similar to donald duck on crack but if that's what you're going for... And again I'd like to reiterate the recording stuff. You shoukd try and find somewhere with better acoustics.

Thanks all for the responses! Yeah, for the recordings we just did them in the drummers basement/bedroom where we jam - it's cramped but it's enough space for us to do our thing, ha ha.

warlord/others, right now I'm using a PA system to amplify my vocals which isn't my own, and while not only being the lowest instrument when we jam, it also muddies up my voice quite a bit, especially on the track with my lower growls. As for the high-pitched screams, that's just kinda the black metal style :p

That doesn't mean it works. Maybe its just me but your high pitched screams remind me of Dallas Taylor (original vocalist for underoath) and that equals puking in my mouth. Of course this could just be my experience as a screamer in metalcore band talking. Our screams are quite different then you black metal types.

Trvly kvlt black metal from the grim and frostbitten northern kingdom.

If you're going for the raw black sound...that's cool. But yeah, try to get some better acoustics. I hear haunted forests during winter -- particularly at night -- are great.

And hey, just because Dallas's vocals in underoath sucked on The Changing of Times doesn't mean the comparison is wholly flawed: Act of Depression and Cries of the Past were good albums. Besides, Maylene is a good southerny rock/metal band. Though, I will say that metalcore vocals tend to be my least favorite of all vocals in metal. *shrugs*

...I need to get a band together.

Hey Ny,
Listened to Rise ov Thor - will give a detailed producers take if you wish. Warning, I'm brutal. That said, any input on a project in its infancy is always good input, well other than the "you guys suck!!!" type of input. :D
Give a tag back and I'll parse it.
