Invisible Gel Cube...

Seeing as how invisibility had a range of touch, how does this crazy wizard cast it on the cube? I hope he doesn't fail that Fort save... or am I missing something?

Oh yeah, they will most likely notice that something is up. For one thing, the bow weilding ranger has Improved Initiative. When an arrow just sticks into thin air, they'll probably begin to get curious. :) And I was definately going to give them the Listen check to notice the muffled sound. I am mainly concerned with refreshing myself on a lot of the weirdnesses that this kind of combat can generate. It's been a while since I dealt with invisible cover :).

As for the range of touch on invisibility, I realize that it will cause the caster damage (without proper protection from acid spells) but that is just one of the quirks of the enemy spellcaster. I don't want to give away too much, in case players come snooping around, but if you want I can bump this thread when it makes it through the story hour, so you'll see what I'm talking about.

I'd give them a DC 20 Spot or Listen check (PC choice) to realize that "something" they cannot see is blocking the sound.

I might give them that as well. However, I would still give them the default "A Spot check result of greater than 20 can generally let you become aware of an invisible creature near you (though you can’t actually see it).", whether they get the other check or not.

By the way, I assume this Cube will have Improved Invisibility cast on it (not just Invisibility). An engulf, whether active or passive, would constitute an attack and cause Invisibility to drop.

I would make that arrow vanish once it's completely enveloped. That would really freak me out.

PS Make it a half-dragon gel cube!

Good for a laugh, but I'm not even going to try to work out the biology of *that* situation. Thanks for the vivid mental image Spikey. :) :D

(Returning you to your regularly scheduled thread.)

More freaky...

Make the charging barbarian disapear once he enters the Gel cube.

BARB - "CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGGG*BlOSH*"

PARTY - "WTF?"
WIZ- "MAYBE A INVISIBLE PORTAL..."
