Invisible Scrolls

I confess, I have always interpreted the rules in such a way that an invisible individual can see himself and the objects he carries. It isn't just a matter of the phraseology of the rules, though that is a factor, of course, as are the game's definiton of illusion and glamer. But there's the added issue that a character who couldn't see himself would find it extraordinarily difficult to function in a wide variety of circumstances, yet invisible characters never incur any penalties for being invisible, as far as I know.

If an invisible wizard couldn't see himself or his equipment, it would be extremely hard for him to change equipment while invisible. Imaging him storing four different wands in his backpack - while it might be possible for him to retreive the one he wants, it definetly would take more time than normal.

All in all, I'd rule that invisible creatures can see themselves and their equipment. Or else it would be pretty complicated.

There are other problems as well. If you are invisible to yourself then your dead around any gaze weapon.

How do you close your eyes in the presense of a Medusa when your eyelids are invisible to you?

How do you shield your eyes from a sudden bright burst of light if your hand is invisible to you?

The same way you can see at all, when the light is passing straight through your retinas?

Try casting a spell if you cannot see yourself. First you find the invisible pouch at your side and draw forth the right invisible spell component. Now you have to make the proper somatic component though you cannot see your hands. This might seem extreme but the rules say you can screw up a verbal spell if your deaf so it makes sense for somatic compenent spells while invisible.

Now throw your mage into the favorite munchkin position. He casts fly and then casts improved invisible. He flies forth and spots the hill giant the party must face. Ah Ha! I can merely strike him down with lighting from above. He will never find me in time to survive. But wait my clothes are flapping around in the wind while I am flying and I cannot see them. Who knows where my spell component pouch might be now. Oh well, guess I will have to eitehr cast verbal only spells or return to the rest of the party and report what I saw.

Come to think of it I like it this way. It removes something that is very hard for a DM to cope with when Improved Invis first comes available to the party wizard.

I like it. It screws players over in a way which is consistent with the rules as written, so he can't rightly protest when you point this out to him. I approve.

Henceforth invisible creatures shall also be automatically blinded, because the light automatically passes through their retinas and leaves them unable to see.
