Ioun stones & more

Yeah, the dull grey stone with light is a nice trick, and often used in our games. In reality it would be a bit annoying to have a light that circles your head.

Another downside of the stones is that they can get lost in an anti-magic field when they lose their flight. It's a nice effect to describe to the players though - they just know it's about the hit the fan when their Ioun stones drop.

I snagged the best idea from Hypersmurf in a previous thread, I'm just waiting to get high-enough level to use it in the current campaign.

Ioun Stones are perfect candidates for Permanent Invisibility. Never worry about someone trying to snatch them away again. :)

Yeees. And then you forget about them and your loved one will get a severe concussion....

Did I say that?

Wow. That was kinda clever.

How about displacement instead? Does the same job without your forgetting they are there.

Plus, there no point in having a big cloud of Ioun stones unless you can use them to look cool... :D

Never heard of a Dull Grey Ioun Stone, where exactally is that from? Do anything?

It's a Ioun stone whose abilities have been used up (like in the case of those spell-absorbing stones or similar); a "dead" stone. It's also on the same chart in the DMG as the rest of the 'stones.

They also make great 1 power-point psionic batteries. :) Unfortunately, they crumble when that happens.

DMG 3.5 260 has the Ioun Stones listing, and while in a foot note it says stones will burn out turn dull grey and become forever useless, they dont list a price, and they're not on the table. It actually seems to sugest they don't do anything, let alone fly. But as has been the case many a time, I may be on the wrong page.
