Oh, it does. But it also creates a very real distance between what you write and who you are. Your character's opinions are not necessarily your own, it's just a role you're playing. In other words, I'm not a total jerk (most of the time...)![]()
Nor am I as noble as some of my characters and NPCs. The beginning of wisdom, perhaps, is to admit that you do not have all the answers --- and maybe not even all of the questions.
