Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad goes to Greyhawk

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad went to Columbia University today and (as one can expect) there were protests to his arrival. That made me realize, in all time in D&D games, I've never seen the local population riot or protest something. I've seen it in other games (Exalted, most notably); I've seen monsters living under a government not their own fighting the powers that be (and wholesale slaughter of the monsters was a-ok), but I don't remember being in a fight against TONS of 1st level commoners and killing them wasn't an option.

Anyone experience anything different?

The closest thing I can think of is at the end of the Age of Worms Adventure Path (spoilers on, just in case)
where Prince Zeech announces he'll duel "those who killed a god," and the surrounding crowd boos and starts to turn ugly. They don't actually riot though.

For obvious reasons, please keep this thread tightly focused on D&D and not on the real world. As tempting as it might be, real world examples of protests are not a good idea.

Thanks!

Oops. Good point p-cat and thank you for not closing down the thread right away.

In the final session of our most recent campaign, the populace started to revolt against their leaders. These leaders were force-marching them through teleportation portals into Greyhawk, to escape the return of Ogremoch.

Here is the best example that I can think of, from WotC's own website.

Basically, College professor publishes thesis about a current major religion's origins relating to a power on another continent exercised by foreign creatures, and it makes a lot of people mad and they start protesting at the college.

Also, Breland (A country in Eberron) has an anti-Monarchy terrorist group that are trying to undermine the king in order to sway the country towards Democracy, but I don't think that wholly counts.

I remember a lot of political hooks in Mystra, especially the Poor Wizard's Almanacs. There were food riots in the Empire, a lot of wars, and it seemed like every country had some sort of rebel faction or insurgency problems of it's own.

In adventures (as opposed to setting material), there's probably not as much. The Desert Nomads series had a rebel group, I think. And of course the Lost City had the three different factions.

In the Ptolus game I play in, our group was caught in the middle of a riot between rival guilds, with an added political dimension. My gnome got thrown through a shop window! *cries*

Awww, poor 'lil fella. See, Whizbang? That's why there shouldn't be gnomes in D&D! :D

On a serious note, I've had a civil war in my game, but I'm not sure if it counts as a protest or not. An actual religious uprising would be incredibly cool.
