Iron DM Qualifying Round!

Rune

Once A Fool
Once upon a time, there was a regular series of very demanding Tournaments on these boards (as well as the Rat Bastard DM club's boards and a place called Nutkinland) based, loosely, on the Iron Chef format--a list of ingredients that had to be used in the authoring of a brief role-playing adventure, set up in a bracket-style tournament.

This is a new format to test out the new Quiz feature of this site, but, I think it will lend itself well to this kind of Tournament.

So, here we go...I present the Qualifying Round of the Tournament for People who Miss Those Old Iron DM Tournaments!

For anyone interested in what kind of judge I am, here are my credentials.

Rules & Suggestions
The qualifying rules are simple:

  • Your goal is to write either a short, complete adventure, or a well-written seed of an adventure (well-written enough, that it practically writes itself the rest of the way) that can be easily used by any DM or GM looking for a good adventure.
  • Only use stats when absolutely necessary, and when you do, keep them brief.
  • There will be no fixed time limit for the qualifying round, but 8 qualifiers will be selected from the first 15 entrants. Future rounds will have a fixed time limit of 48 hours.
  • All entrants in the qualifying round will use the same ingredients. Future ingredient lists will be both expanded, and unique to each pairing of competitors.
  • Use all the ingredients.
  • Keep it brief.
  • Any style, genre, or rule-set is acceptable for an entry, but, if you have doubts that I might be familiar with something...assume that I am not. That said, do not refer me to other sites for background information; I will follow no such links. Provide relevant detail in the entry.
  • Entries in the qualifying round will be given quick consideration, compared to entries in future rounds. This consideration will be on creativity within the parameters of the rules and general quality, both in form and function.
  • I will provide specific and detailed ("Nemmerlesque," even) critique on all entries in future rounds, but sparse critique on entries into the qualifying round.

The Qualifying Round Ingredients:

Forgotten Treasure
Empty Orphanage
Toymaker
Broken Mirror
