It´s also important in IH because without the rule you would provoke an attack of oppertunity by readying (since it is a standard action that is not an attack)Staffan said:Ready is a free action that lets you save a free, move or standard action for later use (you must still have that action available in the current round), rather than a standard action that lets you perform a standard action later. The main difference this makes is that you can take a standard action (e.g. hit someone) and then ready a move action for later.
