Iron Heroes - Why?

What Primarily Attracts You To Iron Heroes?

For me, it was curiosity. I wanted to see what Mearls had cooked up for this book. I wasn't disappointed, but I don't really plan on running IH anytime soon.

So IMO, there's nothing wrong with your Wavebane (although was its shocking burst ability strictly necessary?).
That was actually related to the DM's campaign metaphysics. In the setting he used, elements didn't oppose each other in a cross pattern, but in a wheel. So Fire -> Air -> Water -> Earth -> Fire . . .

I believe lightning was associated with Air because lightning comes from the sky. Water was acid, Earth was sonic (something to do with earthquakes), and Fire was fire.

It wasn't meant to draw on real-world associations - changing them up was sort of the point.

I will agree that the Dungeon Master's Guide shopping list looks more like a shopping list when PCs are making items for themselves. There are some ways around this.

Hmmm, no reply for 'none of the above' either, I like the different flavor that it has from D&D, more like a medieval paradigm than the standerd game.

Where I REALLY start objecting is when the character is deriving spell-like abilities or mundane-enhancements from his items that he has to have in order to remain competitive with other characters at his level.

I agree. My DnD games have gotten to the point that no PC wants to walk out without a ring of protection, an amulet of natural armor and a cloak of resistance. They then concentrate on keeping these itmes upgraded (i.e the adventuring becomes necessary to finance continual item upgrading).

Same here...Heck as a player I would concentrate my spending power on those three items, because 1)they keep me alive and 2)being alive is more fun then being dead (and watching others play on).

Adventures should not be reduced to a simple financial venture that keeps your items updated readying you for more adventure. But alas, adventuring has lost its romantic edge nowadays.
