Iron Lore - Tokens, what the heck are they?

Again, I don't need IL for this. The "easiest" way to make your powers part of your character is to remove that belt of giant strength, and just give the warrior PC a +2 enchancement bonus to Strength. Same mechanics, insert your own flavor.

You don't need a new system to get away from a dependancy on items.
I'm going to take that statement at face value and agree that it is true. However, saying that there are alternatives for that issue doesn't devalue Iron Lore in any way. A system that eschews item-dependency AND is trying to Howard&Lieber-ize the game AND has a fun resource model has value to me, even if it's not the only game in town.

That last is something that particularly intrigues me. It has a fun resource model. The game mechanics themselves are FUN, not merely a means to have fun in a "fair" way (which is my conception of 3.x, given its obsession with "balance"), and not a stumbling block on the way to fun (which is my conception of 2e and many other game systems).

I will admit that I may have been biased by the up-front presentation of a battle-field tactician. I LOVE that concept. If I ever actually got to play (rather than my current "rare DMing, lots of downtime" gaming life) I could conceivably play a Hunter of one type or another for the rest of my career. That character class is Captain America, Cyclops, and every undervalued, team-leader super hero that I loved as a kid when everyone else was creaming their shorts over Wolverine. If, however, the rest of the classes are as impressive, I'll be writing up character sheets and figuring out a batting order in case I ever DO get to play.
