Thanks for that, Henry.

"Dungeons and Immortals" - The "dragons" are gone, slain by the
perpetual healing machines called PCs?
Yeah, sounds familiar.

WotC tend's to lie/exagerate/ignore legal stuff? Check.

AHA! The wotc 3e sheep strike again.
Name-calling isn't new, that's for sure.

Ah-ha, another thanks from me as well, Henry. I didn't see your links before I posted my lament that I didn't have time to go find those very things (and here I am an hour after that post still sitting here when I need to be on house cleaning detail, game on in 5 hours, damn you Enworld!)

You don't have to go back in time

You don't have to go back in time to see how people thought 3ed "destroyed" D&D. Their are several current gaming websites that 3rd edition can not be discussed on,

or is referred to as The Edition That Shall Not Be Named (TETSNBN)

and people who like/play are referred to as 3tards.

When 4ed rolled out the people on these sites mostly rolled their eyes, added 4ron (coined here first as a pre-emptive strike) and just thought "Eh, more of the Same".

Of course. But having been that guy, I can assure you that the shareholders pay the brand leaders to maintain an insightful, long-term vision for the company's IPs--not to just jump on the latest trend with no regard for a brand's historic strengths.

Well Charles, when you were 'that guy,' you had an obvious appreciation for the brand that clearly ran deep. The direction you took D&D during your short stay there was a reasonable improvement, though it didn't involve any radical shifts, and I think that they made the biggest bonehead move ever when they laid you off.

Dungeon Tiles
D&D Minis (both the rules & the plastic figures)
4E Power Cards

All you need to play D&D these days is a big table at your FLGS and some glass beads to track your HP. I've got my BlackOrcs deck with me.

Wait... I thought we needed an online subscription?

Lets make sure we get the conversational record here down correctly.
I think this is a fair assessment. The D&D Brand and roleplaying separating will be the next big step. Its sad but it was fated to eventually happen when Hasbro got the rights. Roleplaying will not be destroyed by this and people that want to play D&D the roleplaying game (OD&D- 4E) will continue to do so.
This is a ridiculous and completely unsupported claim, especially for a game that is synonymous with roleplaying games in the mainstream consciousness.

ExploderWizard believes that the logical next step in the evolution of D&D is for it to cease even being a roleplaying game. The Little Raven thinks this is absurd. Irda Ranger believes that The Little Raven is wrong. Therefore, Irda Ranger believes that the logical next step in the path that D&D is upon is for it to stop being a roleplaying game at all.

Optional accessories that are not required to play the game, only one of which has a collectible element (primarily due to it being primarily focused on a related game, DDM), is supposed to be proof that D&D is no longer going to be a roleplaying game?

This is ridiculously far from meeting the burden of proof for such a claim.

All you need to play D&D these days is a big table at your FLGS and some glass beads to track your HP.

So, the list of things I need to play the game doesn't include the actual rules to the game (aka the books) or the random generation device that is used for the randomization element of the game (aka dice)?

I've got my BlackOrcs deck with me.

Oh, the obligatory Magic reference to get a chuckle out of your other anti-4e buddies. How refreshing and original of you, Irda Ranger. What's your coup de grace going to be, the obligatory "4e IZ WOW HUR HUR" claim?

Ok so Irda Ranger and I have close to the same opinion. Your point is?
