I love me some 3ed.

There are some things I miss from the old days.

Expedition to Barrier peaks
Spelljammer
Planescape
The Sha'irs Handbook

But bringing them into 3e is nothing more than legwork.

Is 3e flawless? Nope. I think the biggest mistake made was locking hitdice = level as an absolute, particularly for monsters. But you know what? That's fixable too. The ground work of the system was very solid, and some really lovely stuff came out for it before the end. Tome of Magic, Totemists, the 3.5 psionics rules and the Book of 9 swords all added both depth and breadth to the system.

I expect to enjoy it for years to come.

Much as I dislike 4E, I can't help but feel that these poll numbers would be different if it was started recently instead of years ago. Oh well. 3.x E love, yay!
I voted no, because I thought this was another edition war thread.

...Then I realized all the posts were from two years ago. (And Gundark was raving about 4E back then too, apparently. :p)

Anyway, yeah, 4E is the best yet.

In terms of mechanics, yes.

In terms of flavor text and depth of lore, no. It could learn from mid/late 2e.

So true.

3.5 was also able, through the OGL, spawn really high quality options due to a cast talent pool. Arcana Unearthed, Midnight, Conan D20, Iron Heroes, etc.

That's not even counting real variants like True20 that are even farther removed.

D&D 3.5 is the best edition there is...for crunch.

For fluff, nothing tops the halcyon days of 2E.

From what little I've experienced and seen of 2E (started playing about two years before 3E came out, and only lightly), I guess I can agree on that. 2E seemed to have richer and longer descriptions, although it may just be nostalgia making me think that.

Yeah, I figured I'd tread necro, since all the cool kids do it. Also, I hadn't voted in it before.

Old thread is INCREDIBLY old. Also, incredibly hilarious to read when you consider what some of the posters have been saying in these forums these days :hmm:

I put mine into yes. The fact that the 3.x ruleset went on to be so open ended to allow the best parts of 2e in as well as make the hobby much more lush and rich on top of rules that put the past and current editions to shame? Yeah.

Unholy Thread Necromancy FTW! ;)

I'd like to retract my vote and make a new vote on "Second Favorite Version of D&D" ;)

Yes, by far. After 3E/3.5, I'd go 1E, BEM, early 2E, and with late 2E and 4E tied for last place. (I never played diaglo's D&D. Thankfully.)
