Is a Rogue proficent with a Kukri?

Sorry if this has been asked before. Is a Rogue proficent with a Kukri without the exotic weapon proficency? The semantics of the SRD would seem to indicate yes.

From the SRD:

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A rogue's weapon training focuses on weapons suitable for stealth and sneak attacks. Thus, all rogues are proficient with the crossbow (hand or light), dagger (any type), dart, light mace, sap, shortbow (normal and composite), and short sword. Medium-size rogues are also proficient with certain weapons that are too big for Small rogues to use and conceal easily: club, heavy crossbow, heavy mace, morningstar, quarterstaff, and rapier. Rogues are proficient with light armor but not with shields.

Kukri: This heavy, curved dagger has its sharp edge on the inside of the curve.

I'm inclined to go either way, so arguments for and againist would be appreciated.

But obviously, that doesn't include the whip-dagger or does it? ;)

If a rogue was proficent with a kukri, why would he wield a dagger - because a dagger can be thrown. I personally don't see a balance issue here so this one is tough to call.

Hehe, yeah, the whip-dagger is a good example. No, obviously not.

I don't see much wrong there either, if your group agrees on that, just allow it. *shrug*

I'd interprete the rules differently, but that doesn't really matter.

The kukri is an exotic weapon, and is listed separately.

I'm sure "any type" means "dagger or punch dagger" (or stilleto or etc. etc. etc).

keep Kukri's exotic.
