i took "D&D" to mean all role-playing games, because i think that was his intent.

No, not really. This in direct response to WotC mentioning D&D as a lifestyle in their marketing plan slides at a recent tradeshow.

Having said that, I got no problem with (and expected, actually) you or anyone else counting all RPGs.

I don't think anyone who has over 1000 posts can fairly say that D&D isn't a major part of their life (well, either that or messageboards... ;) )

D&D is a very big part of my family's life. My wife and I are both avid games. We game at least once a week one we have a group and I tend to spend at least another 2 to 8 hours in prep time for each game I run. She also like for us to spend time in a one on one game during the week.

I put no, having never played D&D, but I'm trying to get in a game, and I play other D20 games...
Hence my presence. Perhaps you should have asked the question differently or put other lesser options...

Sorry! I never claimed this to be a scientific poll! Hope you have luck finding a gaming group.

i spend of good portion of my extra time, energy, money, and other resources on this game.

but the key is "extra".

i have priorities.... :heh:

I chose "it's a big part of my life." I've been married for 13 years and have 4 beautiful daughters, and D&D is my only vice. I met my wife by enticing her to play D&D, and we play a stripped-down version of the minis game with our girls. I also freelance in the industry, so I depend on it for a small portion of income as well. Ever since I was 12 years old, it's the only pasttime that has consistently kept my interest.

I'm kind of "in the closet" about my gaming. None of my non-gaming friends are into sci-fi or fantasy, and I keep my inner geek hidden from them. Yeah, I know that's kind of dumb.

Someday I'm going to come out and be proud and march in D&D Pride Parades and wear T-shirts that say "Jesus Save, the rest of you take full damage" and have a bumpersticker that says "my other car is a fiendish half-dragon dire boar."

It's a tiny, tiny part of my life....what was the question again?? ;)

Seriously, it might be a little bigger part of my life then it should, but it's fun. It's been over 20 years I've been in the hobby and I still enjoy it and have friends that enjoy it.

Nah, don't think it's dumb. DnD has been given such a "negative" "geeky" in the 80's and 90's that, in my opinion, that has become the general outlook when "gamers" think of DnD. At least that is what it was like with my other groups, where they wouldn't try and discuss DnD with their non-gamer friends.

For myself, I am discovering that the majority of the people I know have almost NO knowledge regarding DnD. An anology that I usually come up with them is that it is like "Final Fantasy (or video game), except you can do more..." They have no pre-formed ideas that DnD is considered a "geeky" hobby and are very receptive to hearing about what it is. While this doesn't necessarily mean that they will play, they are not burden by all the negative connotations associated with the game since they have never heard about it before.

On the other hand, I am always amazed at the people I meet who, in my opinoin, I never thought would have played: my good friend (a martial arts instructor) who I was friends with for a couple years before even finding out he was a BIG fan, a new co-worker who is a mildly "scary" looking ex-convict (he LOVES the Drizzt novels), an old friend's younger brother and his friends who live in my city's version of "the ghetto" (they actually went to the local hobby store and stole books to play DND :P ), and old classmates from my old martial arts class: a Yale Lawyer turned Parole Officer because he thought it was more "fun" and a philosophy student who practices Buddhism, Taoism, and all sorts of spiritual arts.

I guess my point is that you never know who plays (or used to play) until you ask. :)

Sorry for the off-topic, back to the thread!

I eat, drink and breathe gaming.

I live, dream and sleep gaming.

I am surprised I am the only one so far to admit it. Heck, I have other things that take up my time- work takes more of my time than gaming related activities in a typical week- but gaming's my bread and butter, my food and wine, my peanut butter and jelly.
