Why, yes, as a matter of fact, it is my favorite RPG. Having played with lighter rules (Tri-Stat dX, for one) and heavier ones (Shadowrun 4e, for one), I must say that the d20 system comes out on top. Combined with the vast amount of resources available, D&D is easily the RPG I enjoy playing (and, of course running) the most.

I rather enjoy D&D. Admittedly though, I have very little RPG expirience outside of D&D. I played Vampire for a short time, but not really enough to learn the ins and outs of the system. That short duration coupled with the fact that the people I played with had modified the rules heavily.

I have been enamored with Shadowrun since my uncle first told me of his street sam based on Doc Holiday.

I hope to open up to more systems in the future though so when this poll inevitably pops up in the future, I hope to have a more informed opinion!

D&D (of any version) doesn't have my ideal rule system (I think I'd prefer something more like HERO, but with templates to smooth character creation).

D&D doesn't have my favorite setting (which varies... currently I have a thing for steampunk which I've yet to see done really well Anywhere, though Iron Kingdoms looks pretty good)

D&D has a lot of quirks that annoy me, they quit publishing my favorite D&D-specific setting (Planescape), and there many things I want to do in an RPG that I can't/don't get to do in D&D.

But it is my favorite RPG. Partially due to nostalgia (the vast majority of my gaming was D&D back in highschool when we'd play 3+ nights a week, 8+ hours a session), partially because it's all that I get to play on the rare occasions I do get to, and partially because it's a better fit for my tastes than anything else.

I'm not sure D&D is anyone's perfect RPG but for the vast majority of people, it's 'good enough'.

Quite the opposite...3.X ranks near or at the bottom o'the heap. I do have a soft spot for the older editions...but C&C is an improvement over them too.

I prefer rules-lite game systems that require minimal prep time and model abstract combat, so True20 and C&C are at the top of my list. But I’m not ready to sell off my 3.X books just yet- after all, it’s probably the easiest system to find players for anywhere in the country?
