Is Dragon 309 out?

While many skills have changed, any word on changes in actualy class skill lists and number of skill points?

One problem with a by-the-book Psion is that confusing class skill list (each specialist has different set of skills) and not having Craft, Profession and Knowlege skills on their list. Also, there is another class that has access to Animal Empathy, Psion:Telepaths. I wonder if Wild Empathy could be made into a psionic feat?

If there are no longer exclusive skills, that means that Autohypnosis and Stabilze Self are now available to other classes. Barbarians and Rogues can make good use of these!

Something else that caught my eye, Trapfinding (Pg61).

It says a rogue can search for traps with with DC heigher than 20. I assume this means any one with ranks in Search can look for traps with DC less than 20.

They always could. It said under the skill section, under search (I believe, might have been disable device) that "only rogues can find a trap with DC 20 or higher." A lot of people didn't see it now, so they are adding it to the rogue class list so everyone knows they have the ability.

Does that mean anyone with ranks in Spot can now read lips? Or is there a feat for it, kind of like Track?

I imagine the DC is probably quite high.

<shrug> It makes sense to me, but then I'm used to GURPS, where Lip Reading defaults to Vision (at -10). :)

Me too. It's also not true. That sentence in Dragon is an error. The wild empathy class ability works like Diplomacy (but on animals, of course). It does not require ranks in Diplomacy (or skill ranks of any kind). Sorry about the mix-up.

Thanks, Jesse! (Would you care to tell us how it does work?)

Amazing.

Wilderness Lore, Bluff and Spot, three of the best skills got more abilities, but they leave a skill like Use Rope lying around.

It seems like for every two good ideas they have one that's sort of a sloppy band-aid.

That's identical to 3e. The only catch is that only crude traps have a DC below 20.

Say, I still haven't gotten Dragon #309 yet. Anyone else in the same boat?

Btw, I may have missed mention of this, but what was this issue's center insert? I heard something about a DM's screen, but thought that was being saved for #310....

re: insert in 309

In place of the usual insert there's a Scourge of Worlds preview DVD. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

Yes, the DM Screen is in the next issue (310).

Wild Empathy

Apparently, it works by allowing the Druid/Ranger to add (Level + CHA Bonus + 1D20) on a Reaction Check, as though they were using Diplomacy on a person (no skill needed). Still the same requirements as Animal Empathy.
