Seriously, I am disappointed to see such negativity about Hackmaster, but also other non-d20 games in general. Have so many people become so jaded that they refute ANYTHING d20, and turn their backs on other flavors of roleplaying? I really hope not, because so many of the people I know here are fair-minded, objective, and not afraid of other opinion - it surprised me to see some have such a negative reaction.

I see Hackmaster not as a joke, but a mockery of D&D and it's fans. I see it as making fun of me. So obviously I'm not going to like it.
Trancejeremy, I am truly disheartened to see that Hackmaster, nor its inspiration KODT, does not agree with you. One thing that I must ask is if you did not see any of yourself, or your previous gaming groups in the comics, or in the game itself? I don't aim to single you out, but rather to use your comments as a springboard for my question.
Truth be told, I am certain that Jolly (Blackburn, series creator) means no harm to D&D players - after all, he is a dyed-in the-wool D&D player of many, many years, and draws so much of the comics from his own experiences, not to insult gamers, but to celebrate them, and to help us all laugh at ourselves a bit. So many people I know and talk to get such a kick out of the comics, and the #1 phrase used is, "How did Jolly get a secret camera at MY gaming table???" His comics are beloved by many many D&D fans because he knows his audience so well, not because he intends to insult them. I can only wonder just how many other gamers find Jolly's work as insulting rather than funny, because this is honestly the first I've known of it.
Just how many people see Hackmaster and KODT as Insulting to D&D players? I can't see it, but if someone can point out what they find insulting, I would love to hear it. I've found it a constant source of fun, alongside Aaron Williams' Nodwick, as the highlights of my months. In fact, these two are the only comics I ever read anymore, newspaper, comic book, or otherwise!!!
