Is it worth buying stuff especially for 3.5 anymore?

I doubt WOTC is not at least thinking about it. Somewhere, there is a design group at least comming up with things they would like to redo. Andy Collins did that for 3.5, and frankly we know that Andy made some comments considering a complete overhaul of how meta magic works, for 3.5.
Someone is thinking about it, it would be irresponsible if they werent.

While I am sure that Eberron is going to get a lot of support, I just do not believe that all or R&D is working solely on Eberron. WOTC buisness strategy has been to not concentrate to much focus on any one setting, so the failure of any line (like Eberron), wont bring the whole brand with it. R&D is most likely working on something else as well. While 4ed might not be it, the thought has to be there somewhere, especially with the "Re-release" model WOTC has used for it's books,(ie PHB->PHB 3/0/3.5, Fiend Folio, Draconomicon, etc).

Ok, now you've confused me. I was under the impression that you disliked the idea of having 4E any time soon. Now you say that WotC would be irresponsible not to be planning it? What am I missing?

Anyway, sure someone at WotC is thinking about 4E - we, the fans, have been thinking about 4E since about five minutes after 3E was out - but that doesn't mean that there is any actual plan or effort towards it. Besides, the R&D has been drastically reduced since 3E days; I believe that Eberron and the new 3.5E splatbooks are already more than enough to fill their hands.

Maybe, but this does not imply in any way, that they don't plan to make a 4.5 edition!
Good point. :D

Of course they're not all working on Eberron. But that doesn't mesan they're working on 4e.

They're working on the rest of the Complete series, the FR line, the new race books, the environment series, perhaps even on the minis game. Not to mention the other one off type books like the undead book and the planar book.

There is so much new stuff lined up for 3.5, I can't believe it, and most of it sounds pretty good to me.

I'm sure that 4e is on the cards at some point, but Im hoping that it's more than 2 years off. I really like 3.5, and if it is only 2 years away, I'll probably stay with 3.5.

Draconomicon and the Fiend folio rereleases? What the frick?

John, the real D&D book-buying mentality (which I definitely have) requires me to buy at least one D&D book per month. :)

Edition doesn't matter! :D

With regard to 4E, I don't think 2006 is likely... but I do think that when it comes it will fix many the flaws perceived in 3E and 3.5E. And introduce new ones, of course!

I hope one thing that happens in 4E is that the Sorcerer and Wizard will gain more special abilities by level - so that there are things they can give up when they take Prestige Classes.

Cheers!

I really have had very little trouble using the 3E stuff with the 3.5E stuff. If you want to be super safe spend all of your money building dungeon terrain and miniatures - I guarantee you those will be in any new edition ;)

actually miniatures worry me a little. I have a bunch of 3.0 counters that aren't sized appropriately in 3.5. Perhaps it means less with real miniatures, I suppose.
