Is Leveling the 'fix'?

For me, the "fix" comes from the shared crafting those dramatic, cinematic moments that live on in stories every bit as vivid as the best scenes from movies. Those usually happen more with high-level characters, but it doesn't necessarily require levels. For me, one of the many urges of gaming is similar to the urge to go watch the new Star Wars, or read a great fantasy novel. I love the gaming equivelant of putting the book down and going, "wow, that was awesome!"

As someone who has done his share of drugs (though I don't think I'm a junkie), the stories and the memories are the best parts of good drug experiences, just like gaming.

Coming up with an idea (and ultimately pulling it off) that leaves the DM with his mouth agape because he hadn't thought of what you just purposed, and it's best when said idea saves the day, though it's not necessary.
